A tournament rule....

I was at this tournament an hour ago at a local bar.. I broke and put in two solids. Since it was still open, I hit a stripe into a solid and pocketed it...
Now, I just kept on shooting.. because I made a ball right?
So this guy comes up to me and says, "Just for shits and giggles, you know if you pocket two of the same set, you can't use one from the other to make a combo."

I never heard of this before... Is it a BCA rule

I've never heard of that.
the guy was more than likely bullshitting you and trying to rattle your game a little or mabey it's some local thing or "bar rules".

Side Pocket Kid, there are so many different rules and variations to 8-ball.

Back when I played it, which was in a bar, if you pocketed ONLY two solids on the break and no high balls, then you were low balls and your opponent was high balls. The table was NOT open. If you pocketed one of each, then the table was open and you could take your choice. 8-ball on the break was an automatic win, as long as you didn't scratch.

However, fast-forward 30 years, new organizations and leagues have formed, and each has their own set of 8-ball rules.

The way we used to play, the 8-ball is neutral and you don't have to hit the 8-ball on the last shot. I've been to some places where the 8-ball was NOT neutral.

There was another rule at some places which went like this. When you've run out all of your solids or stripes and you're down to shooting in the 8, you MUST hit the 8-ball or else you lose the game. I never liked that rule.

Ah, the good old 8-ball days! :p

Yeah, we normally play nine ball... but in this bar we were playing 8 on a 7 foot bar-box

and there were no rules hanging anywhere... all they told me when I paid was that its Bca 8 ball.
