A tribute to Earl Strickland

Personally, I would LOVE to see Earl take the U.S. Open this year...what would that be--6 titles? Of all the guys of his generation going this year, he's the most likely to have a shot...any of those guys (Sigel, Davenport, Howard, Varner, etc.) catching some kind of gear and knocking off all the young guns would make a hell of a movie...but if Earl wins, what would that do to the Mosconi Cup this year???

That would be awesome! On a number of levels... I'm rooting for Earl to bring it home!

That is pretty much BS. He won the 2002 world 9 ball with the Cuetec (along with many others), stopped using it and then failed to win a tournament for 10 years until he won the Mizerak. Earl played fine with the Cuetec, much better than he has played without it.

Technically, it has not even been ten years since 2002. Also, I think he played with a Cuetec until just a few years ago....2007 if I remember correctly.

Earl is a great man

i loved your story about earl, playing a round of golf.i played a round at turning stone back around 02/03.it was me earl and corl dueal.it was the best time i ever had,on a course he never played earl shot 77 from the back tees.i have the card which i asked him to sign to this day.he is the same way when playing golf as pool.that day is when i actually met the real earl and we have been friends ever since.people might think he is crazy but he strives to be the best at whatever he does.if he was not there you people who do not like him would not have anything to talk about.cory was not playing good that day but i could tell that he was a good golfer himself and a competitor at heart.thanks for the great article.

A Tribute to Earl Strickland

I also played a round of golf with him (10+ years ago). He was a low single digit handicap golfer then. He IS competitive and a perfectionist. Kind of funny golf story though, he was already 7 over par after 7 holes (poor for a+/- 5 handicap). Hole #8 par 3 he hooked his tee ball out of bounds, hit his 2nd shot stiff to 3 feet and tapped in for a bogey. The next 10 holes he shot 5 UNDER PAR! ...as I said, he IS competitive !
