My wife has consented to spend some of her vacation time at the Open, lucky me :) . She likes to gamble a little and wants to know if there are any casinos near the site? Also would anybody like to recommend some nice places to stay and eat? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry to say there are no casinos here in Va. Plenty of nice hotels around though some within a mile or two of the Chesapeake Convention Center where the Open is held. Plenty of Malls around for shopping if the wife likes that. Barry puts on a great tourney, lots of vendors. World Class. Hope this helps a little.

Even though it is only Virginia, it seems to be in the Bible Belt. A friend came by one year and he wanted to go to a Strip Club. We couldnt find one and a couple of locals said there were none around. Considering the whole area is Military mostly Navy-pretty strange.

Send her to Qmasters. The bacon grilled cheese is second to none, and all the action in the world is there.;)

I can't speak for Casinos, but the tournament venue is 10 miles from the airport. Car rentals are at the airport and there are numerous places to eat between Norfolk and Chesapeake.

Also, the Chesapeake Convention Ctr has a website with info on the venue and hotels. I believe there are 4-5 hotels within walking distance of the US Open.

To the original poster- if you are interested, there is a group of forum ppl that get together for dinner and a funsy tournament during the Open, every year. Check the Billiards Digest forum about a month before, for details.

I booked the Red Roof over by the pool room for $43 night using the 602763 discount code available to anyone. That Red Roof is a good one. Of course you have to have a car. The one by the tournament is pretty bad.

The Wyndham 400 yds away is very good too- i got in there last year for around $50 and if i can get it again for that I may switch out of the RR but last time i checked it was $75+/nite. The Hampton Inn is close also and an excellent hotel everywhere but generally $90-120.00

Wow! Did you use a gun and mask to get that rate? I like to stay near Q Master cuz I tend to be there in the wee hours of the morn.

It's still available. Put in that code and you are home free. Hell no more than 6-7 years ago i got a 29.95 rate at the one by the event without a discount code.

Of course i booked one year in advance. They were too stupid to check the next years Open dates and adjust their rates.

depends on how far you like to ride for a little casino action!....
Atlantic City is up the road and all the new PA Casinos are fighting for your money.....we have table games now you know :)

Last year AZ worked a 20% discount code for Red Roof Inn, with a portion going to pool travel fund. Red Roof Inn is right across the street from the Convention Center. Its about 15 minute car ride from Q-Masters.

Thanks, man. The Red Roof across from the Ctr is a dump; it's pretty bad. Normally, I'm all for a simple room cuz all I do is shower and sleep. The last time I stayed there was in 03 or 04. It was bad then and I don't think they fixed it up any (they did raise their rates considerably, though :sorry: ). Coincidentally, the year I stayed there, there was a bad hurricane that hit and I was at the only hotel that had power/air conditioning!
