my apologies. The game is 9 ball. This layout actually came up in a game the other day. How would you get out from here?

CueTable Help

You can thank me later, but me, personally, I simply would four rail kick the cue ball, hit rail first, pocketing the eight ball, and then gain easy postion for the nine ball and the win. This shot is a lot eaiser once you get four rail kicks down...

In all seriousness, how about a push shot on the eight to get out for the nine?

Are they frozen? If not, how far apart? Is the shot straight in or is there a little angle?

lmao.........that 3railer is dead

i would just tap the 8 in and leave myself an almost straight in 9, and if i missed i would leave the cue on the footrail and the 9 on the longrail more than likely. Sometimes a hard long shot on the 9 is better than no shot at all (which could happen if you get too fancy with the 8).

The shot is perfectly straight in, and the distance between the cue and the 8 is probably about half a ball's width.

The masse works nicely on these shots, but it takes a little practice to get to where you can judge contact point and the speed well.

Then not all is what it seems. On the diagram, it looks like there's a little angle, and it looks like they're closer than half a ball.

So how far are they away from the end rail; if the CB were drawn straight back, would you scratch, or hit the side rail?

If you can't draw straight back and then spin uptable, you'd be best off just sinking the 8 and then taking the long shot. Any trick shot to get yourself closer is probably too low percentage when a good player should be able to make the long shot on the 9.

I would just suck it up, cinch the 8 (careful of the double hit), and pot the long 9.

I would rather lose missing the long 9 than doing something totally unnecessary and missing the 8.

From the end rail, they're probably half a ball's width. The pockets on the table are normal pockets, and take balls easily. Attempting to draw the cueball would most likely result in a scratch; I'd never attempt it.

Then use right draw and cut the ball a little. A short stroke is required. Draw back to the side rail and spin down towards the nine. But I'll have to see the shot on the table to be sure.

Here's what I actually did:

CueTable Help

For some reason, the red line on this diagram didn't copy correctly, but it should show the 8 ball going into the corner pocket. The shot was really stroked firmly with an extreme inside english stun shot, with the cue ball hitting the long rail approximately where indicated. It then crossed over to the other rail, barely missing the side pocket, and then out for nice shape on the 9 ball. It was the first time I'd attempted to shoot this kind of shot in a real game. Glad it worked.

If that's the action you got, you either hit the shot very, very well or you double-hit the cue ball.

No kidding...I would use a jacked up cue and stun the CB over to make the nine....

if u really want to brag about how u finished it, or how efren would play it in a practise session?

kick jump over the 8, aim to the left, put right side on it so it hits the cussion forst , and ur perfect on the 9. not even SO hard to do.

or if u are more a safetyplayer, rol the cb in between the 8 and the cussion and leave the cb against the 8. he cant pot the 8 and will leave u a shot, or he makes a double kiss.

how would i play it? pot the 9 straight and then a long9. this should be a 50+% runout.

Thanks, Bob. Actually, I spent several hours playing with shooting this kind of shot at various angles that were very tight. What I found was that if I aimed directly through the cue ball at a certain place straight at the point on the object ball I wanted to hit, that with a certain power of stroke, with my high squirt shaft, that I could with a certain degree of accuracy hit the object ball on exactly the correct point. The shot was hit very firmly, I'd almost say it was a slightly jacked up extreme english sting-stun shot (my terminology, pardon me for any inadvertent inaccuracy). There was definitely no double hit. When I hit the shot, the fellow I was playing watched the 8 ball fire into the pocket and the cueball do its magic. He only said, with a dejected tone of voice, "good shot"....

GREAT ideas! Thanks so much! Gonna work on those!

let me know how the kickshot worked out. :D

i prefere that over the other option as your opponent can do the same, and u gave up the table.

Great idea, but I didn't have much luck getting it to work for me. However, the idea is where it counts, in my mind, for the future :D

Thanks so much,
