I was able to go visit the legend, Nick Varner yesterday. We hung out, talked pool, and played some one pocket. I also picked up a gorgeous Joss made for him decades ago to add to my humble collection. Here are some photos.

Matt, great story here and I love that case and cue- quick question, I have just bought a home back North and will be installing a nine foot table once I find the right one- I have been looking at the Littman 8 foot pool table light- looks like that is the one above the table in your photo- do you recall if the light seemed effective for a nine foot table?
Thanks, Mike

I didn’t buy the case, I just wanted a photo of it. The lighting over the table seemed just fine.

Yes, why?

Well, because I was at Nick's store back in July and he had green cloth on his table, not blue. I know he used to have blue for years. He even commented on Facebook that he now had green cloth after around 20 years of blue. He even told me it was standard Simonis Green.

It was green. Not sure why it looks blue in that photo. I may have played with the lighting when editing or hitting the auto correct to make the cues look better. I remember us talking about it while playing. Lightning fast, and 4 1/4 pockets. I really liked the green.

If ever you are going to pay Nick another visit, would you please say thanks to him for collaboration with Falcon Cues! Some of those were awesome. Made in Canada back then.

Here is a nice little story from my pool mentor about Varner, whom he used to work with quite a lot. When asked to check whether a newly installed table was level or not, Nick screwed his cue, ran a 100 in straight pool, unscrewed and said, 'Well, yeah, the table is good'.
