yep, me again, and yep, you guessed it, same old topic.

i got back from Home Depot and Wal-Mart tonight, watched some of the 2002 World Championships, most notably Efren and Francisco. so that really got me in the mood to play, so i go downstairs to my Gold Crown IV, and guess what?

yep, just nothing but miserable roll after bad roll after horrible roll, one right after another, just non-stop. i bet i racked and broke for 2 hours, and i cant recall how many times i was hosed off the break by about anywhere from 1/16" inch to about 1/4" inch. the rest of the time, just no chance, no shot, miserable, miserable, miserable, etc, etc, etc.

guess it's just never going to end.
why me?
why always me?

You lucky bastard. Getting all those opportunities to overcome difficult real game situations.

If your preferences change, to just accepting what happens, the run of the balls will change.

I used to think I was cursed at times, and be expecting bad turns to occur, and they would. Just thinking about it seems to bring it on.

When all you are thinking of is accepting whatever happens and being determined to do your best from there, you will find things improve.

Weird but true. I haven't felt unlucky in years. I used to think I got unlucky runs most the time I played.

I swear there is something seriously wrong with your brain. You have posted about your bad rolls for over a year, it seems like once every two weeks or so. Seriously man, it sounds like you are cursed and you should just quit the game for good. By the way, do you think I forgot about this post you made 2 months ago?

i hate it when people whine and cry about getting a bad roll every so often. that stuff is part of the game, live with it, deal with it, accept it. bad rolls will make you a better player.

From the thread entitled "Unluckiest Roll Ever" in June. You can't take your own advice?

Because the Gods of Pool are watching and they're punishing you for pissing people off like Gerda and AZ forum members.

At least you have a Gold Crown IV and didn't get axed from your job...how about that for the bright side, Dr. Depresso?

The next time you ask that question listen carefully and I am sure you will hear that little voice saying, "because you pissed me off".

Everybody has those times ...

I laid off Pool for a couple months, and just went back shooting
last week. I was a little off, but took 2nd in a weekly tournaement.
I then subbed earlier in the week in a 10 ball league and shot
horrible. Then Friday night, I was determined to get my act
back together, and won a weekly tournament of 8 ball, race to 3.

Saturday, started a specail 32 player handicapped 8 ball tournament.
I was trying to get myself prepared mentally thinking about the
tournament and Pool that I started to get in the shower with
my ballcap on .... lol (don't ask ..it's a catcher thing...okay).
The draw was horrible, one of my best friends, Jamie, a 9, drew
Mark, a 10, the first round. I got a bye and had to play the winner.
Jamie was off his game, so Mark won. I played Mark, very badly,
and Mark beat me bad. So over to the 1 loss side I went. Things
did not get easier as I thought they would. It was a struggle all
day long. I kept having what I call 'Falling off the log shots' where
you know what to do, you zero in on it, and then something totally
out of the blue happens, and you just don't know what the hell went
wrong. My brain went out to lunch, as I struggled to try to win
my 9 games for a match. Somehow, i managed to keep it together
and my safety play kept me in it. My last match last night, I was
playing an 8, and he got to the hill, and I needed 3 games to win.
I played careful, being real careful about my runs, not trying to
shoot risky shots, and somehow I got through the 3 games and the
win. I felt so tired last night, and achy. Actually, I wasn't the only
one struggling, 4 or 5 other players struggled all day too. Do you
think it was the way the planets were aligned? Hell, I don't know,
but I sure hope things are a lot better at 2 this afternoon when
I am playing for 3rd.

man, i've been lurking here for a few months now and i have to give you props, man, you really know how to drive yourself into the depths of depression. and this is really funny stuff , dude. thanks for always cracking me up, DCP :D :D :D .

i can think of a few reasons why you get bad rolls everytime:

1. you did not follow mark wilson's advice
2. you don't have a good break
3. pool is just not for you.
4. you were just born unlucky

i have to ask you this though, why do you always practice like that anyway? there are better ways to practice. have you tried playing the ghost? you should, it is a great way to practice your offensive skill.

right now, you are just torturing yourself and putting negative thoughts in your brain and no good will come out of it. i believe you need to take a few days (or weeks) off pool. maybe try fishing, bowling, or whatever activity that could take your mind off pool. then after your "vacation" come back fresh and ready to start all over again.

I have your answer....From now on...instead of trying to break the balls up and getting a open shot on the one...Break the balls hard, but try to break them in such a way that you make no balls and are dead hooked on the one...

This way you can at least say...I intended to play it that way.......and with your luck....you will likely make 3-balls on the break and have a perfect shot on the 1-ball with natural shape to the 2......Problem solved.... :D

hmmm... I'll be happy to take that gold crown off your hands :)
Honestly, I think thats the source of all your misfortune!
PM and I'll be happy to give it a good home where we only speak of good runs and rolls :D

DCP, as much as I see you complain about your rolls after the break I think you need to work on a few things.

1. Your mental approach, meaning what you expect to get after the break.

2. You mental approach to the break itself. Are you just smashing the balls and hoping you get a shot or are you playing for a shot?

3. Your breaking fundamentals. I have never seen you play, but maybe the mechanics of your break could be improved?

4. When your getting these "bad rolls" are you hitting a good break? Dont fall into the trap of thinking just because its hard its good. There are many things that go into a good break, high speed is probably one of the least important. (Although you do need to be able to hit em hard at times)

5. You may need to learn how to adjust when you are breaking. If your breaking for 2 hrs (something I wouldnt recommend anyway but thats another story) and have been hitting good breaks but still arent happy with the results then you havent figured out how to adjust your break position and speed to get the results you want.
