This is a ? for a little insight on APA sl going up. My wife was a sl 3 an she had a pretty good win %(not sure actual) anyway she was moved too a sl 4(which she was fine with that as we think it was probably time) So here's the ?, she has played 9 matches an won 2 (22%) an was moved up too a sl 5. Any ideas why? Thx in advance

Your local operator has the right to manually move a players skill level. You can call National Office in St. Louis and see if that was the case.

A manual move is based upon opinion of opposing team captains when they write up suggestions on the back of APA score sheets. Usually 3 strikes.

Good luck in the APA.

Zach.

I talked to my wife that is a captain of an APA team and has been for almost 20 years. She said this sounds bogus. Winning two games out of nine after moving to a skill level 4, if anything she should be moved back down to a level 3. What is the reason that the league operator gave?

Thx for the replies. Forgot to mention that it's 8 ball. Her captain is going to call Monday an ask.

Scores entered incorrectly by the LO, opposing teams *****ing, retribution, or god knows what else. If you find any logic, please share.

Just remember, it's not necessarily performance.

Thier is no real formula and you will never ever get a straight answer it will go some thing like this well the games she won she won in x innings even though she lost she shows higher ability,,

The sooner you relize there is no method to the madness and its strickly a dictatorship the better off you will be

I have been playing and captianing teams for 15 years and the only way that this might have happened is if she lost the 7 matches with a good score like hill hill, but still you need to call and ask for a quick revue.--Leonard

Unless she won a singles board(higher level tournament) or several TopGun matches after the session.

Remember, it's the best 10 of her last 20 matches. So figure those 7 losses are going away. When you all figured it was time for her to move up anyway what were her innings and safes like in the matches she won and do you figure she was at about 50% back then? or was it a higher win %?

Her cap called one of the reps today an they said too email the LO an talk too her at cities this week before matches start. Her matches as a 3 was probably little better than 50% with her probably shooting more defensive than most 3

a 3 with 50% wins and playing defense ? there is your answer right there.

defensive shots do not count towards your total innings played. if she won a rack in 5 innings and made 2 defensive shots. they see it as she won in 3 innings. that would be darn sporty shooting for a 3. just used it as an example.

in 2 years of playing apa i have only seen 1 s/l 3 that ever made a defensive shot without being coached to do so during a time out. most 3s dont have the cue ball control to play an effective defensive shot. i never coach 1 to do so unless i know it is something they are capable of pulling off sucssesfully.

Well they decided not to even ask about the move an play it out an see what happens. My wife is very competitive so she hopes this makes her play harder an improve her game. Thx for all the replies

Thats so true! First thing I always do is check to see if they can make a stop shot, and if not show them how. So many great safes come up on a simple stop shot.

IMO the most important factor to APA rankings is innings. And as lorider mentioned safeties get deducted from innings. Most 5 average 4 innings per rack whether it's a win or a loss.

somebody forgot to tell that to the 5 that beat me 4-0 in 9 innings today. we also had a 5 beat our 6 4-0 in 9 innings today. those are some pretty strong 5s.

Those aren't too shabby. A 5 should be able to break and run here and there. You get somebody like that to be 'on' for even a couple of racks and those 9 innings could be made up of only 2 or 3 racks easy. One of my most memorable wins as a 5 was beating a 7 3-2 in 5 innings, with a break and run, a table run and short defensive game counting for my wins. That's one reason I feared 5s so much when I became a 7 myself, because I knew all that they had to do was get into a groove for a few games and it could be over.

We had our cities/tri-cups the last couple of weekends. Needless to say, I still have never made it to team regionals in about 7 1/2 years. :embarrassed2:

Good playing, though, and good luck in the next couple of weekends.

I know in 9 ball if you win a match in less then a certain number of innings (and that number is in the LO's laptop/ league program) you will be moved up a skill level. When I first started playing I went from a 5 to a 7 in two matches, the LO said the system will move you up if you turn in a single big win. Not sure, but the same may be true with 8ball, though this may or maynot apply in this situation.

That is not the equalizer handicap system thus it is not APA

Since your match history was minimal, a big win can have a huge influence on your rating that early on.
