Hi, I actually live just outside Calgary in Carseland (30 minutes east). I stop by chalks billiards near South Centre on occasion, there is also a good tournament at Buckinghams pub downtown every Saturday I like to play in.

Other than that, I play my league out here in the country and play alot on my home table. How about you, where do you play?

Sniper,
Hi. I have not gone to any tournaments or league lately due to being a new DAD and having a busy schedule. Just like you, I do have a table at home that I regularly practice on.
I have heard of the tournament in buckingham's but not too sure if I know any regulars there.
Styx, mike's, peter's, and hideout use to be the places I go to to play. Anyway, maybe we can meet sometime and shoot some? All the best in your game sniper. :D

Hey. celtic. you watch your language ,young man.
I know you've got a reason to be upset but
that's no excuse to resort to profanity.
I had my my wife's picture in my wallet when
I read your post.

Sorry man.

But I still stand by my statement that this thread is garbage and should have been deleted when Mike saw it. Maybe make a section of the forum called "The Trash Bin" where you can mive such posts as this if you dont feel like deleting them. People can go there and say whatever they want and normal people dont have to read it or see it.

Congrats on being a dad, I hear you on the busy schedule thing...thankfully I've still made room for pool. If you ever get the chance (time!) to play at Buckinghams tournament try it you'll have a blast with the guys down there.

P.S.

Where is Styx, Mikes, peter's, and hideout located in Calgary...I haven't had the chance to play at these places before.

Cheers,

Sniper

Sniper,
Hi. Styx and hideout, even great white, is a good place to go. IMO most of the big players in calgary (edwin montal, bernie mikelsen, etc) mostly plays in one of these halls. all of them are located in the south. btw, great white is one of the venues where the north american 9 ball tourney was held. alot of pros go to that hall.
:D . hideout is great since they jave around 20 boxes and two 4.5 x 9 and is free all day long-just buy food.

I am anxious to go to Great White, it sounds like an awesome pool hall, I also heard the competition there is fierce as well, something like 60 tables all good condition too.

Calgary Pool Halls

If you want to see the top players in Calgary these are the places and times to be there.

Stix: Sunday. 7PM tournament start time. The top players play in this tournament.

Great White: Wednesday. 7PM tournament start time. Top players play in this tournament.
Monday. 7PM Southern Music Masters League is in the Great White. Some top teams from Calgary. Players league has the stronger field this year, I am not sure where they are playing out of though.

The Hideout: Saturday 8-ball tournament, starts about 2PM. This tournament is pulling an awesome field of late. Top players in the city are playing this tournament atm.
This place is one of the only places you can go to see a decent player or two at most times.

There is really no pool hall in Calgary that pulls in the players anymore. There once was the Black Wolf that was a awesome "players" pool hall, it closed. There was Unwinders before that, it was a awesome place to play back in the day when Dennis Belleck (sp?) ran it and always had players there.

Nowadays there is nowhere you can go to find the top players anymore unless it is tournament night at one of the above places or some other tourney that is doing well on a given week. The Hideout as I said will have afew players there that are decent, sometimes a top player or two practicing. Dave Martin's new place called Jr's occasionally has some top players there practicing as well. The Great White almost never has any players in it besides tournament night. Stix kinda sucks as well when there is no tournament if you want to find good players. We need a new pool hall in Calgary that is keyed in towards the players, course it is tough to make a go of it with a "players" pool hall.

celtic,
definately agree with you that tourney night is the time to go (sorry i did not mention that).
yup...definately remember black wolf. too bad it closed, my friends and i use to hang there once in a while.
the pool hall i missed was unwinders. they were the only ones in town that had gold crown 4 with ball return system. when the placed closed, they sold the tables for 2,000 canadian :( too bad i did not have the money and space to afford it then.
