About this Cue...

I would like to know more about this custom capone cue..
I saw it a few years back when I first started looking into customs and getting into this side of billiards more.
I would like to know if anyone here knows who owns this cue or has owned it, and a rough estimate of its price.
I emailed mike about this cue when I saw it on his site for the first time and he told me it was one of his favorite cues he had made and was unsure if he would make another like it, also he didn't give me an exact price on it, only that it was expensive.
I really don't want to have another builder make a duplicate or something like it, I would much rather learn more of it and if at all possible own the original of the cue someday.
thanks all

It is a very good looking cue.

I haven't heard anything about Mike lately. He definitely should have given you a price and a build time. Probably about $3,000 is my guess. Description, six points, snakewood and ebony, birdseye forearm, looks like holly and ebony veneers, snakewood box butt with ebony and holly veneers. Ivory or micarta spearhead inlays.

Maybe call him again:

If Capone does not want to duplicate that cue exactly, I think it will look just as nice if you did not have the diamond inlays in the points and butt, just the wood blocks. Would save you some money as well on it if built new.

I have looked at his cues before and liked them. He seems to do really good job on his veneer work. Secondly, I like that he has made long points. This cue is a great example of long points but I have seen other that were a little different.

Its those little things like that, gives a cue a little difference from everybody elses cue.

thanks for the info everyone, I was thinking of having the same veneers and points made but the butt end I was thinking of having reverse points instead of the box either that or just a nice Gabon ebony with a hoppe ivory ring bumper less at the bottom.

I also like the points and veneers in this cue, I feel its definitely more money for this cue though. also does anyone know if he uses only one joint/pin or will he build a cue with the pin size I request?
I am not sure what it is, but I seem to gravitate to his cues, every time I see one I go right up to the person and ask them about it even if I don't know who built it, it usually ends up being a Capone cue. he uses the nicest high figured BEM in the forearms and the points are razor sharp. I love em.

Reverse points will make it look too busy....
...how about boxes on the after-wrap, matching inlays, and diamonds
inside the box.

I agree. The first version is close to perfection. I as well prefer a simpler back end.

this is true, the original is perfect to begin with. But what if I did it without the boxes and kept the spears/diamonds and made it almost a hoppe ivory ring on the bottom.
But as far as the rings on the cue go, it has the railroad style rings at all points, I am not the biggest fan of the railroad rings. But they work well on this cue. Though if I were to change them, what do y'all think about solid ivory rings? or something along those lines, any suggestions on these thoughts?
thanks everyone..

I have seen this cue in person on display at the US open, pretty combination of woods and colors. The Snake wood and Ebony are gorgeous together. The point work is ROUGH on the cue though,

hey, so you saw this in person? did you get to hit with it or even hold it? and when you say "the point work is rough".......do you mean the points are poorly laid into the cue or they are not sharp or what? because from the pictures of the cue, these points look pretty darn sharp my friend.

I am almost positive that is the same cue he had on display at the open a few years back, thought about buying it. Snakewood, Ebony and Ivory will be my next cue combo. This cue is beautiful. I did hold it, examined closely, I did not hit a ball with it. What I mean by point work being "rough" is...... the length of the points is uneven. For a cue commanding high dollar the points should all be even. they are sharp, just not even.
