I joined the Accu-Stats video of the month club a few months ago and for the most part, they've sent me long-run videos: Mike Sigel 150-out, Oliver Ortmann 150-out player review, etc.

I would like to request some videos with closer matches, good safety play, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Straight Pool only? I'd have to go through my list, but one that springs to mind immediately in terms of instructional value is 17SP-04, the Rempe vs SanSouci player review. A virtual treasure trove of Straight Pool knowledge.

I'm also fond of the Efren Reyes Straight Pool tapes mainly because he's got his own instinctive pattern play that sometimes includes solutions one won't see from so-called expert Straight Pool players - he's thinking outside of the box, so to speak.

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

How could I forget my other favourite Straight Pool player review (perhaps the best of them all?) 15SP-11D Lane vs Archer? The insight offered by Lane is probably unmatched - unlike so many other pros who review one of their own matches, he really watches attentively, and won't talk about much else other than what's going on at any moment, and shares an amount of knowledge that probably calls for multiple viewing. Great stuff!

Any player review is worth the price. Listening to their thoughts is priceless. Mika's is pretty good when he runs 150 and out versus Sigel. Mizerak beating Sigel 150-8 is pretty good too. Anytime you can watch Miz play is worth it.

IMO the match itself is nowhere near as important as the commentators. Get all you can with Danny D. The man knows his straight pool!

David:

I agree. One of my all-time favorite 14.1 videos from Accu-Stats is Mike Sigel vs. Efren Reyes in the 2000 U.S. Open 14.1. Sigel badly misses a break shot, and misses the rack altogether as well (I said it was bad, didn't I? :D ). The break ball ends up near the side pocket, with the cue ball down low near the side of the rack. Efren can see the break ball, but he can't cut it into the side pocket. Mr. One Pocket himself says, "no problem, I just bank this ball!" and he does so -- with a stiff hit, he cross-sides the break ball, has the cue ball go down table two rails, and into the pack -- resulting in his run continuing.

It was voted and cataloged as a "Stroke of Genius" by Billiards Digest:

(There's a video showing the shot itself.)

And the straight pool play itself is GREAT!

That was one of the greatest shots I recall in a 14.1 match. Another good DVD to purchase.
