I'll be there raring to go. who all else is gonna be there? are there any plans of an AZ room like those that have been set up for other previous nationals?

so now that the BCA nationals have concluded, the ACS nationals are fast approaching. Only 16 days. so me, john and bryan the only ones gonna be there? Any TAR stuff set up? Any AZ room planned? anything at all?

The past few years that I've gone to the ACS, there has been no AZB room or anything like that. I managed to meet a few AZB'ers just by posting on the board and asking who's going. I just got back from the BCA, but I have a good friend of mine that's going to be playing in the 9ball event and 8ball.

I went out there a few years ago and was extremely disappointed.

They only had the first big room with tables and the walls were almost empty. Very few vendors.

The Texas state BCAPL tournament was more exciting and had better tables.

I've never been back and if the ACS is falling down nationally like it is in Texas......there won't be an ACS in the not-so-distant future.

So i guess ACS is the stepchild then?

i'm playing in the team 8-ball event. i wanted to play in the team 9-ball also, but the other members of my leaugue that are going drug ass and i couldnt get people to commit before the registration deadline....

I will never, ever support the ACS. They stole money from my state BCA and left us almost bankrupt for the year after Mark bought the BCA leagues.

Long live Mark Griffen and the BCA leagues.

Stepchild???

If you thougth BCAPL and ACS was somewhat related, then you've been grossly mis-informed or confused...

All leagues, BCAPL, APA, VNEA and ACS are competitors to each other. They all have different headquarters, league operators and such. It maybe confusing due to the fact that currently the Riviera is the hosting hotel for the National Championship for all leagues. The cards just fell that way. My guess is that the Riviera is the most logical choice -economically, especially for the players without a deep pocket. And mind you some vendors and players are there (in Vegas) for the entire month of May for all the events, so can you imagine if they had to the room rates over $150.00 (to say the least) a night?

Far as I know, all the special extra events you enjoy at the BCAPL National are unique and I don't know any other league(s) go out on their limbs to offer that to the members. It's because BCA strides to better serve their members and give more bang for their money/trip out to the Vegas which is never cheap. To hang out at AZ room, watch the pro matches and to experience the TARPIT is an awsome treat. Especially to the members who get knocked out early in the event and don't want to loose all their money to the HOUSE!

Oh getting back to your original answer...I don't know who's the father of ACS?

ill be there for the whole thing.been playing good got 17th in 9 ball last year .1st time for singles .im playin better this year by a ball.BUT monday me a ginder and a piece of steel had a misunderstanding .8 stiches in my thumb, a cut artery and a softball size hand makes it hard to play .but im tryin counting them days down .

have you never heard the figure of speach "treated like a red headed stepchild"?

i was making no inferance that any of the leauges are related in any way. i know they are not, but that has nothing to do with the number of sponsors or vendors that participate such as our local cue makers, repair men, dealers that frequent our forum or AZB, TAR, etc....

Oh getting back to your original answer...I don't know who's the father of ACS?

The father of ACS is John Lewis along with Cecil Messier (SP?) and Betty Harris among others.

All of them ex-members of the then BCA.

This has all been documented elsewhere countless times and recently ACS published a public letter bashing the BCA for something.

From a somewhat interested party view......The old board didn't like the idea that the BCA separated the pool interests from the trade org interest and sold it to the highest bidder (Meet Mark Griffen).

So they took their marbles and formed the ACS with great hype and fanfare. I think the intial year or two showed some interest but with each year they lose leagues and players. The org is poorly run and they only have a few paid employees (Read slow and inefficient). All they really do a good job at is bashing the BCAPL and trying to promote the Olympics....like anyone gives a rats behind if they add cue sports to that

Here in TX the state tourney was so small....we almost have a better turnout for a city tournament.

They had John Lewis promoting the event as the tournament director (Read the ACS has no confidence that the Texas ACS folks know how to run a tourney) and working as a referee. They asked me to come back into the referee program, but watching the TX ACS just cemented my decision to remain with BCAPL.

The turnout was so bad that they were taking entries the day the tournament started and in fact let a few players that were not registered ACS members play.

Oh did I forget to mention that they used a triple elimination format and had a bracket drawn that had no place to go. It took one of the players to fix it.

Need I say more

Regardless of the bad rep the ACS has earned from some players, I'm going to play. The 9 and 8 ball singles, the three man mixed-master 9 ball team and five man 8 ball open team events. Our team(s) is from the Las Vegas Cue Club. Stop by and say hello. Better yet, visit our sponsor!

I know Gary Benson will give the players the best possible conditions to play on. His crew did a great job running the BCAPL's event. One more day would have been perfect. Too many events, too many players, too few days.
