Action at the Viking Tourney-- Kucharo

Jon Kucharo roasted a couple of guys playing 9 ball on the bar box at Billiards On Main in Galesburg last night.

The woofing got started early and during a lull in the tournament action Jon took on a guy from Chicago... Eddie ?? (sorry I forget his name) playing him an 11 game set and and giving up the 6 for $500.

Jon was never threatended and was playing run-out pool taking Eddie down 11 to 5.

The woofing continued and Jon got another Chicago area player, whose name I didn't get, to take the strong spot of the break and the 5 (!) for $500. The poor guy didn't have a chance as Jon just plowed through the racks winning by the same score of 11 to 5 or maybe 11 to 6... couldn't see the others guys quarter under the rail and Jon took down the last 6 or so games running out from everywhere.

Great action to watch as Jon's skills and the feeling in the air that there could be repurcussions from Jon's running mouth kept things warmed up.

It sounded like there was going to be a replay on another table, as the cat from Chicago couldn't get a ball to go on the break, but "Gramps" had to go home. The furnace in our house broke down this weekend so even though the tournament was THE priority I had to get home to make sure the wife wasn't frozen to the potty stool or something.

There ware still 12 left in the tournament to finish today and then also today there will be the open part of the tournament to get completed.

The Viking Tour provides a much needed taste of good pool to this action starved part of the country and many of us really appreciate the efforts of Mike Janis, Shawn Putnam, and Billiards On Main owner Mark Hammerl. It's a quality tournament with Shawn running it and Billiards On Main is a very nice room w/6 Gold Crown's and about the same number of bar boxes and the best Italian Beef Sandwiches and french fries in captivity... even better than Portillios.... maybe :D (Craig says absolutely THE BEST.. no contest!, which I say.. contest. :D )

Wish I coulda made it up there yesterday/last night, but ....

Working today from noon til whenever, so, not today either. SUCKS!!! I wanted to play in the amateur event too. I'll play in one of the BoM events eventually...sheesh. Have fun today, wish I could come up there. :(

BTW, did Big Don (Neckle?) play? I asked Bobby if he was gonna make it up there a couple of weeks ago, and he wasn't sure....they both made the last one, but Bobby wasn't exactly in the best "shape" to play. :)

nobody from peoria in the pro event

Good luck Jon

during the IPT qualifiers I got a chance to rack the balls on diamond tables and help Jon work on his break. He broke in balls 98 times from the fist 100 racks- 49 from 50 2 times. He did win the qualifiers in mn. hands down. I 'm sending my luck today for Jon to (roast and smoke um). mark

Shawn Putnam beat James Baraks to win the pro side of the tournament at hill/hill and the open was still on when I left.

Kucharo had some problems after I left last night and then again today. I guess he won another $500 set giving up the 6 to Eddie but then lost another set going the same way... or so I was told. Then he lost another one today.... same game, and after that another one to somebody else, but I didn't know that was going on until it was over. After that one he was hitting on people to back him for a $500 set.

I was saddended watching him today. He had on the same clothes he had on last night. The phrase "rode hard and put away wet" comes to mind. I saw him trying to get a game going when I got there at 1:30 pm today. He had just lost his 2nd set in the losers brackett to a local guy and was out of the tournament. The he disappeared for a few hours only to reappear at about 8 tonight. I thought he had split but the word was he had slept in the back room for a few hours this afternoon. I don't know about last night. Lots of people were talking about it.

Please know that I'm reporting what I saw or heard from people that were there and I'm not going to make any accusations or draw any conclusions.... but imo it was not pretty. If there were a smilie with a tear on a cheek I'd end this post with that picture.
