Action in Colorado Springs...

I'll be headed out to Colorado Springs for business and on Friday evening will be free, and am looking for a good place to shoot some pool. I checked poolhallfinder.com and came up with this list:

Colorado Springs

Corner Pocket
6505 Security Whitefield Blvd
(719) 392-9480
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Country USA
2493 S Academy Blvd
(719) 574-2148
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hat Tricks
1840 N Academy Blvd
(719) 550-0025
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rack & Tap
5869 Palmer Park Blvd
(719) 574-4555
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sticks Billiards
4474 Austin Bluffs Pkwy
(719) 260-7176
--------------------------

Which of these would you recommend? Not necessarily looking for action, but would like to find a place where the players go.

Thanks!

Flex

I've a pal who's a gambler type, and I suspect he knows the good spots in the Springs. I'll be seeing him tonight so I'll ask him where the good action is, and drop another reply in later.

Perfect timing for this question. I am heading out to Colorodo Springs next month, I'm not looking for any action, just a real nice place to play.

Phantom Canyon (if it's still open) downtown is an upscale place to play.

Of the ones you listed, I found the most action at Sticks. Dennis is (was) the manager there and he can set you up in some action. He's a good guy and good friend of mine from the old days.

My info might be out of date, been since 2001.

Cheers,
RC

Phantom Canyon is a nice sports bar with 9 footers. No real action there though. Sticks has gone down hill but you can still find action there. Antiques Billiards (on Galley) is the best place to get into action or just to watch a circus. 9ball and 1 pocket are played most often but straight pool is played as well. Good luck and watch out for the gypsies.

I lived there for a couple of years. It was about 15 years ago but it seemd like sticks was the main spot. There is a place there also that has a buch of pink felt tables. Anyone recall the name of that place'

It was Pinky's. They had locations in Co springs, Littleton and Westminster.

It was a pretty good place for action in its day, but I think they've all closed now.

Pinkys closed a while back. Sticks has indeed gone downhill over the past few years. Phantom Canyon has good food and beer, the tables suck and there's no action there. The best room by far is Antique Billiards on the access road by the Citadel Mall. Antiques has a slew of Diamond bar tables and a bunch of Diamond 9 footers along with a bunch of old Brunswick tables, including a 5 X 10 and a 6 X 12 that everyone plays golf on. You can always get action there on Friday or Saturday nights.

Grr... I had misread your initial post, and thought you WERE looking for a place with action. So my questioning my pal last night was useless. :D

He did mention Antiques as the best place to go IF you're looking for action, though.

I'll be staying at the Sheraton on South Circle Drive. How far is Antique Billiards from there?

About 5 miles, next to the Citadel Mall. On Friday, they have a 9 ball tourney on the 7ft. Diamonds, plus side action.

Hi,

I'm down in the springs right now. The only two places worth playing at are Antiques and Sticks.

Antiques has the most players any more and is quite a nice place. I'm playing over at sticks every afternoon for the past several days...I'm partial to Brunswick gold crowns.

If you like I'd be glad to play a few games with you if I'm still around on Friday. Send me a pm and perhaps we can hook up.

Regards,

Doug

Are you Flats from the Valley?

Hey guys, thanks for all the tips and info. I really had hoped to be able to rustle up some action tonight, even though my original post didn't exactly say that, but unfortunately I've have a change in plans (business related) and most likely won't be able to make it to any pool hall while in town. Golly gee whiz, I had really hoped to be able to do so.

Best,

Flex

Well, my plans changed again :) and I was able to head on over to the Antiques Billiards place. Jam packed. $2.50 an hour, in the evening no less. Practiced for an hour on an antique Brunswick 9 footer. Very nice. Tons of people, wasn't looking to pick up a game, as they had a 9 ball tournament, race to 4, double elimination, for $5, on Diamond bar boxes, 50 cents a game.

Had a great time. Won my first match, and got to play the owner, Jim. He's the fellow who took 3rd in 2003 in the APA Amateur Championship. Jim's quite a player. Someone told me he's a very agressive player, almost never playing safeties. Well guess what? He played more than a few safeties on me. Soon as we were at two games each in the race to four, he played me a whole lot tighter. He ended up winning, 4-2, but I was pretty happy doing as well as I did. The match could have gone either way, but he won it. Congrats to him.

Next match I had was on the one loss side, and he warned the fellow I was playing that I was a road player!!! Yeah right!! If I were a roadie, I'd have beaten him! In any case, my first match I won 4-1, the second one, my hat was handed to me by a pretty good player. Skunked me 4-0. That's life :D

I learned a few things tonight. First, just because the pockets are larger than the triple shimmed tables I'm used to playing on doesn't mean I can be careless. That last match I lost due to being careless too often. My opponent capitalized on the errors, and won.

Although I rarely play on bar boxes, this evening taught me a good lesson. Approach the table like it's a tough table, play a very precise game, and run the balls more easily!

I did have a few very nice outs tonight, happy about that. By the way, they don't allow jumping. Be forewarned! If they had, there would have been a couple of balls in hand I'd probably not have given up.

If you haven't already, check out Antiques Billiards.

Yes, it's Regas. Born and raised in Alamosa. I played on the Tuesday night league there a couple of years ago...I sent you a pm.

Hope everything is great!

Well, I played a Keith in the first round after I lost to Jim Barber. Jim had told Keith I was a road player, go figger! LOL Not!

I won against Keith, and then played Charles, who works there. He's the one who skunked me. I took too many foolish chances against him and he capitalized on them an beat me handily. I guess one of the things that happened when playing was thinking those pockets are so large, I can't miss! Wrong! Shoot the balls wrong and they won't pot, and you'll blow shape. Very good learning experience.
