Well it seems Indy is getting plenty of road action these days.
In 1 week I have visited a local poolroom and been privlege to witness a couple of surprise road players walk thru the door.

Last week it was a guy i am not sure of his name but he was a young kid approx. 23, med brown hair, 5'7. If i am not mistaken i believe he was at Derby lurking in the action room. But he came in with Mike from Illinois and another guy. He played Big Arm/ Strong Arm John 8 ball even on a bar box and was taking John to the cleaners. After about 8 games or so John walked away. Not positive but i think it was a bill a game.
Tonight as I am playing in walks John Hager and he goes to a corner table and is hitting balls alone...... John, Nesli O'hare, Jeff Beckly were also hitting balls prior to Hager walking in. So you know something is brewing and then someone tells John he will be here around 8:30. Later on in walks Denver Barger. Not sure what the match up was but it seems every week a different player is walking in the room. Makes you want to go practice daily.

Where's the action?

I am usually back home from school on the weekends, and would like to see some action here and there. Where do you play/watch??

I dont see much on the weekends only thru the week...... weekends has too many young kids and there is a nightclub and a bowling ally right next door that causes alot of traffic.

Airport Billiards on the westside

Tanya, I have several friends who play at airport billiards. Mac ashby, Brian Gregg, and Waldo. I assume you know them too. Sam

Tanya and Satman,
Thanks for the update. I know Mac, Brian, and Waldo to look at (I've spoken some to Waldo - he helped pour the patio on my new house) - they all play fairly strong from what I've seen of them. Of interest, 2 top road players that I know have said that Indianapolis (area) and Houston have more good players than any other cities in the country (hopefully the NYC and Florida players will not hear about this). I have also met George (Bill) Coffey and Jim Stoner - have you played them Satman?

There is usually some action at Chalkies on the northside, but probably not as much as at Airport. Does anyone ever go to Executive Billiards on Keystone? I have been told there is always action there (but I know none of the action players - I think they do not play elsewhere). Do they still have a 5 x 10 table as the main action table?

I havn't seen Bill Coffey for years, but yes I know him. I also know Jim Stoner and most of the other top players from In. and Ohio. One of the top players from Ohio that I roomed with at a tournament in Jan., says the midwest is full of unknown, top notch shortstops. I'm going to Ft. Wayne this weekend {march 27-28} for a 9-ball tournament, but I may try to come down to Chalkies next week. Sam

I went to executive 3 or 4 times a few years back had heard it was a nice place to play, it had nice tables, a really nice 10 foot antique looking snooker table, i went in there one time with a pretty solid player and he played one guy for a few bucks a game no one else ever asked to play him, the tables were good, the place was a dive though, if i remember right it was cheap to play compared to other places, i had heard about it from other people, an had even read online that it had a lot of action, but i didnt really see any, but this was a couple years ago.

Johnson,
A local player named Skeet says it is impossible to go into Executive without getting approached for a game. He also thought it was a dive (though sometimes that is a positive attribute for a pool hall - just part of the image problem for the sport). Skeet seemed like a pretty good player (and I think he was helping Mike H. with running the tournaments at Chalkies), I'll bet Satman knows him.

Yes Skeet is doing the tournament at Chalkies each week. Nice guy...just starting to get to know people in the area as my hubby has taught me a lot about the game in the last 3 yrs.
I have lived here all my life but never had an interest in pool like i do now.
Sam, i dont know the people you mentioned by name however hubby does, i know most of the top players and action players but not many locals yet.

I think there was a guy named Skeet a few years ago that ran some tournamentsat the Billiards Cafe in Castleton. I haven't been to Executive in several years, but it always was kind of a dive. A friend of mine used to work the late shift in there and he sent many a road player packin. His name was Larry York. I don't think he's playing now. I think Steve Oaks still plays there occasionally.

Howdy satman,
Larry york changed his profession. He became an artist( painting the pictures that sort).
