Action Rooms are Gradually Dying

Lol. That was a bad joint also, but I'm talking 60's and 70's. Weenie Beenie opened
the original "Jack & Jill ' in 1967 in Arlington va. The original 'Guys & Dolls' was in suitland md just off branch ave (dont know when it opened, I played there in 1966 ).
Beenies was the action spot on the east coast ( except for the room in Detroit ) and Guys & Dolls was a 24/7 room that had lots of action, but by 73', hard to get out with the money. Beenies went strong with the best players in the country around every month.
It closed in 1980 as Beenie had moved to Myrtle Beach in 78' or 79'
The golden age of pool.....long gone...........
ps Yes, I did live up to my handle more than a few times...lol. Thats why I'm still here!

Amen brother! Yeah I have heard of Weenie's places before, but they were before my time. Are you familiar with the places I was referencing ( obviously Bladensburg but how bout Glen Burnie )?

I can say he is!
Lol. My buddy Ricky and I dragged Black-Balled kicking and screaming to Glen Burnie
a few times. We also took Big Randy there. I played Geese banks there a number of times ....with a spot of course...knew Mike since he was 14. Pretty good action there
till Cliff bought it and the crack-heads took over the parking lot at night. Quit going about 95-96. It was better as Bill & Billies when Ed owned it. The better location was inside 695
in that safeway shopping center.

Lol, JAM still calls it Bill & Billies all the time. I am familiar with Ed and B&B's buy not the Safeway spot you are mentioning. It was always back in the industrial park since I started going there. Where / how far away was the safewy?

As I remember, it was down ritchie hwy toward baltimore on the left, inside the beltway. Nice place. I liked it better than the glen burnie spot. Dont know why Ed moved. It was when I was out of pool due to back problems.

Oh yeah now that you mention it I think I do remember hearing that. Was it by a place called " Doc & Annie's "?

The best action back in the 60's was in Los Angeles. Jay Helfert and I used to play regularly for $20 per game one pocket. That was our opening bet. And, we were the cheapies in the room. I remember being kicked off a table because there was a bigger money game in the works. Nowadays $5 pool is a big game.
