The first thing that came to my mind was Jew Paul and his tennis shoes.
They always looked ready to disintegrate in mid stride.
i don't know why I thought of this now, but here goes.
Ileft Denver a few years ago with a guy named John Gatton. John was about 6 ft 2in and and maybe 170 when soaking wet. He was a construction worker and a hard working guy.
We got to Odessa Texas and got into a game wit this Pimp of sorts. They began playing about 6 int the evening. He always wore those lace up boots like the workers wore and I finally convinced him to buy a pair of sneakers.
Wel; like I said they began playing about 6 in the evening and John being the real wood chopper began to show some signs of fatigue around midnight, the next night. They had been playing about 30 hours and it was a real battle as John was only about 40 games up on this guy but wouldn't raise the bet. I was going nuts!
At midnight he laid his cue down and went out to the car and took off his tennis Shoes and put on those lace up boots. i don't know what it was , the night air or what, but John came back in and beat the fuy like 12 games in a row and finally, FINALLY Busted the guy.
Exhausted, he barely made it to the car and he was out, gone, dead to the world.
I had all the money and headed to a motel checked in but couldn't wake him. I went inside and got a blanket and covered him and left a note on the mirror as to what room I was in.
I went back to the car about 2 pm which meant he had slept in or around 12 hours in the front seat of the car. He opened his eyes and said,"Told ya them the the them thar thar thar tttttteeeennnniiiiiissss SHHHHHoooeeees aaaaaiiiiiinnnnnttttt nnnnnooooo gggggooooodddd fffor them lllllllong sets"!
