Adam cue made by Dufferin?

When did ADAM-Japan make any cues for Dufferin? Never heard of that being done. Just because it has a butterfly butt style with a window doesn't mean Dufferin Canada had anything to with it. Lot of guessing going on here. Its either: A. A Japanese ADAM or B. A Chinese ADAM I don't think Dufferin-Can. had anything to do with it. BTW, since about '04-'05 every Dufferin and almost all ADAM cues have been Chinese built. Same factory too.

ADAM Japan never made cues for Dufferin. As far as what company made this cue- I would like to reserve judgement on that until I have the cue in hand. The speculation is that POSSIBLY, if the cue specs out in several ways to the Canadian Dufferin of similar design ( which I possess and will make an objective comparison) that Dufferin Canada - sometime between 1994 and 2004 - may have contracted with EITHER ADAM Japan or ADAM China to produce this cue ( Dufferin Canada doing the production work) for ADAM's sole distribution- it is just speculation right now - no one is making any claims at this point- just a fun topic to explore.

NO one has come forward on this site to say that they ever saw THIS ADAM cue in the past. Perhaps Dufferin Canada did initiate an agreement with either ADAM firm and perhaps the deal fell through and this was a prototype cue- wouldn't the be great:) for the new owner- ME! Maybe the deal fell through when ADAM Japan moved to CHINA in 1996 or when Dufferin Canada declared bankruptcy and sold out to the Chinese in 2005/6 - no one has come forward to say they know the history of this ADAM cue- and it appears the original owner is deceased now ( this was an eBay listing from a guy who got it at a West Coast estate sale) - so I am just trying to solve what may be a puzzle RAISED BY THE ORIGINAL POSTER ON THIS CUE- I invested $75 + shipping to have a little fun with this.

The cue case suggests a mid-90s or earlier timeframe; the variation in joint pin choice (3/8 10) and joint pin placement ( cue butt not cue shaft) from the original Canadian Dufferin butterfly cues of this design suggest either a custom conversion by the owner or a deliberate attempt by the manufacturing party ( ADAM- China or Japan) or parties ( Dufferin Canada and one of two ADAM cue companies) involved; to create a different playability function into a redesign of an established Dufferin Canada butterfly cue construction.

Not a big deal, Mike....but Dufferin called that design a ‘flame’....if it was on the forearm, it was a butterfly.
....I’m mentioning it so you may avoid misunderstandings in future deals.

Yes, thanks- I do remember the name "flame" cue. it is exactly as you said :) :) I think I have seen some Dufferin "flame" cues with that brighter yellow or orange splice as well.

I received the ADAM cue- I compared it to my "made in Canada" Dufferin "flame" cue of the same style- This ADAM cue was NOT made by Dufferin of Canada- it is also was NOT made by ADAM of Japan.
Not a bad cue at all- but more the quality of ADAM or Dufferin China for sure! This cue is almost mint condition- I don't know when ADAM of China made these cues- I am sure it was post 1996 when ADAM Japan was moved to China - an obvious copy of the ORIGINAL FLAME cues made by DUFFERIN of Canada (pre 2004).

I made a small investment to solve an interesting question- glad that I did! Cue actually plays very nice with the 3/8 10 pin and wood to wood joint- too bad the shaft has some roll out to it, but playable. Seems like this cue has almost no play on it at all and the cool vintage case is like brand new :) Not bad for $75!

I used to play a lot of 14-1 in the early 70s in Michigan. We had qualifying tournaments in Lansing for the Open that was held in Chicago. Those days Mizerak won most of the big tournaments. I got to see all the great players back then.
I purchased an Adams cue around 1973 when they were a premium cue. I moved to Florida and basically quit playing much pool. I still have the cue. Very little use since the 70s. Has a lot of inlay on it. I paid about 225.00 in the early 70s for it. The stats say 20 0z Ah41. I have tried to find a present day value with no luck. Anyone on the forum have an idea?
