adding paint details to your own cue?

Hi folks, I'm buying a new cue shortly, a cheapie, and just was wondering (more out of curiosity than out of a burning desire to do it)...has anyone experimented with adding their own paint details to a cue? Not talking about setting the cue awash in wood stain....just small little details, like an odd dot of colour here or there, or initials, or a small logo, or whathaveyou? If so...what was your process?

I once knew a guy who would decorate his sneaky pete using thin lines of pinstriping tape like they use on cars. He came up with some nice, interesting designs that made him happy. More power to him.

I think the toughest part for an amateur would be prepping the existing clear-coat finish to accept/hold paint and then putting a clear-coat finish over the paint.

Maybe you should experiment first on a Balabushka.
