Adjusting the weight and balance of a Predator cue

Hey all!

Lately, I’ve been adjusting the weight and balance of my 8 Point Sneaky Pete Black/Curly/Blue Points Linen Wrap pool cue with a Revo 12.4 shaft, but I still haven’t found the right weight bolt combination that I like.

I like my cue to feel a bit heavier so that when I pull it back on the final stroke, it naturally wants to go forward through the CB. When the cue feels light, I feel like I might twist it or something, but I also don’t like it when the whole cue feels too heavy.

I’ve tried putting the light weight bolts first — like 0.1 and 0.2/0.3/0.4 oz — and then the heavier ones — like 0.5, 0.7, and 1 oz — in different combinations, as well as putting the heavier ones first. When the heavier bolts are too far towards the butt end, the whole cue feels heavy; when they’re first in, the cue feels lighter but still not to my liking; and when they’re somewhere in the middle, it feels too light.

My grip hand is generally on the butt end of the cue, below the wrap.

Has anyone played with this setup and has some weight bolt combinations to recommend?

Play with each setup for at least 4hrs. I don't think your giving any of the combinations a fair chance for your head to adapt to.

I went through your same issue. I thought I wanted forward weight. Played with 19.5" BP. After a while I realized my touch shots and speed control went to shit. I went back to 18.5" after a couple weeks.

Wow, just wow. I am overwhelmed by the data. The spec of the cue et all.
First I would get it chipped. You know a Bluetooth connection to the receiver program on the cell phone. It will analyze and spit out a suggestion just like the magic 8 ball.

Have you tried using the plastic bolts? Plastic has a different density and how you use them can push the balance point a bit, plus you have aluminum and steel bolts. I needed to use two plastic ones in the front myself.

Also a side note. My last cue felt good at 19.25oz my current predator feels good at 18.9. So don't get stuck in your head that I need to have something that matches my old cue. This adjustment is strictly feel. So you are going to need to experiment.

To do it in an organized way, measure the weight and balance point for each test, then write down how it feels. I found it was easy to get confused when trying different combinations.

I did play with every combination a few hours.

I have one plastic one in the Uniloc weight kit, and did use it in the front, 0.1/0.2/0.3/0.4 are aluminum od 0.5/0.7/1/2 oz are steel in the kit, used all except the 2 oz.

I also noticed that the cue feels heavier with, for example, 19.1 oz when the steel bolts are at the end and plastic and aluminum in the front, than 19.4 oz with only steel in the front, that is why I asked here to try and find some insight, since I'm experimenting for weeks and still haven't found something that was instant gratification :)

Good idea, thank you!

What weight bolt combination did you end up with and what total cue weight?

Somehow replace the Sneaky Pete butt with a McDermott H-Series butt (3/8x10 joint). It is not like all other butts that give miniscule weight and balance adjustment. It allows you to vary the weight along the length of the butt.

First, gently lean the assembled cue at a slight angle against the wall. Next, you're going to take the sole of your foot, and raise it to meet the joint pin of the cue. Now, you're going to want to flex that knee here (some like to do more of a spinning roundhouse style), and thrust the sole of the foot into the joint pin area.

Presto! Weight and balance adjusted.

Try without the bolts in. does it feel front or back heavy then adjust accordingly. I bought a few plastic weight bolts they are very hard to come by but I found a few.

balance is more important than weight and different balance points can make the cue feel heavier or lighter.
Get the balance right! and if you can't get it right with your cue, then seriously think about replacing it, but only once you know exactly how you like youe cues to be balanced.
