Advantage of long cue, about to find out

Since I started the first thread about not seeing how an extra long and heavy
cue could be of any benefit other than being able to reach certain shots, I
wanted to try one. There are a lot of people that said they play better
with a long cue with the extension on. Playing with it on all the time. Since
Shane, Earl, Campbell and others do this it seems it must have some merit.
No one where I play has one so I figured I would not be able to try one out
any time soon. I'm happy to say I will be trying one out tomorrow.
Campbell contacted me and sent me one of his personal 60" cues with 8"
extension to try. I'm not sure of the maker. It has no wrap, very figured
wood with bands above and below the darker handle. I will try it tomorrow
and see if there is anything to it.

There won’t be anything besides more weight, and changed balance regardless of butt or joint extension

Personally I think it’s probably just more consistent in feel than changing it on or of course using a bridge gives the player a little more reach on a bigger table letting them get a proper stance more often instead of maybe being up against table.

It’s def no magical answer to the question how do I get better.

I played 7 hours with a 58" cue (18.9 oz) and a 4" extension (2,2 oz) and 6" extension (3 oz). I liked more the 6" extension. The shots need less effort, making a follow shot is very easy, also a position shot with 3-4 rails is quite easy. The object balls are more "absorbed" in the pocket. The feel of cue doesn't change, like with a extension in the middle. I'll keep playing with extension to see what other benefits I can find. For the Banks and rotation games, longer cue is a good idea.

Yeah but get in a money game for about 6 hours, you definitely start feeling the weight.
Also for me playing 1 pocket it's harder when u just barely got to touch the cue ball to take a foul,
but I did play good 9 an 10 ball with it, think it's cause I was letting my stroke out.

I played with the 4" mid extension for several months. The main advantages were the reach and not feeling a difference in the cue when it came to shooting that far-reaching shot.

Today, as I don't have room to play with an extension full time, I use the screw in extension. Whenever I have to use it, it feels foreign, and I'm not used to the swing right at that moment.
