advantages of using hard tip

The real advantage in my opinion to any tip is that it produces the sound, feel and action you desire. For me, Triangle tips are my preferred tip. I don't like layered tips because for me they are not worth the extra cost. As with many things it is largely a matter of preference.

People swear by certain tips, but you should certainly hit with as many as you can, and find which feels the best for your game. Alot tips are better for gaining english, some are good for players that hit softly so forth. I prefered for the longest time a simple Ole' LePro soft or medium. Now I currently use a Sniper tip, and love the action.

I sometimes like to practice with a hard tip. The harder the better, because I feel like that will tell you any and all flaws in your stroke that are forgiven when using a softer tip.

I do prefer to play with a softer tip, but practicing some stroke shots, etc... with a hard tip (especially a phenolic tip) can be a real eye opener...
