Advice on Replacing Pred SPW4 Butt

Well as luck would have it, a few weeks before DCC, a crack that can't be repaired has appeared at the joint of my beloved Pred SPW4 (QR Wood/Wood)

Has anyone had any luck ordering a butt only, (no wrap, any brand, preferably inexpensive) either online or other, that I might be able to just snap on and go? I've already got two 30" 314-2 shafts so any additional shaft is just firewood.

The more plain, the better. :D

Thanks!

If it's just a sneaky pete butt you are looking for Meullers will probably make you one. Their pro bar Q plays pretty well.

can you post a picture of the damage? I would think a cue repair person or cue builder could put a phenolic collar around the joint and fix your problem.

Check this site out. I'm certain they can fix your problem:

Thanks for the replies!

I don't have the picture thing setup to post a pic, but the problem is simple to describe. The crack starts at the joint and follows the grain down about an 1 1/2". The wood is relatively thin (less than 1/8") there because of the phenolic insert. I've already shown it to a couple cue folks who said they couldn't do anything with it.

Obviously I could have something custom made, and I'll find out tomorrow if I can order an exact replacement butt somewhere without having to buy a shaft with it, but I was wondering if anyone here had ever ordered just a plain no wrap butt for a Pred shaft (QR wood /wood) and maybe what the thing cost and how they liked it.

Thanks again!

Ebay

Get on Ebay and see what the cheapest Lucasi butt you can find and get it, or call Schmelke and they'll set you up with a sneaky of your choice with any joint you want for less that 150$.

I think i have the info you need!

There is a company called Hampton Ridge Billiards http://www.hrbilliards.com You have to have a dealers license or know someone who does. Sorry but i currently dont have a dealers license. But they have predator butts only available to dealers.
The SP 4W is very cheap.

Put up a post in the wanted/for sale section and someone can probably help you out. I have a Players cue I can let you borrow for the DCC, but I get half of your winnings!:grin-square: Good luck!

Btw, you have to quit banging your cue around like a mad man. I know you are a hot-head!:banghead: JK!

Lol, that's right! I flung that b*tch across the room right after we played! :D

Seriously though, thanks! Worse case I've got the BK2 butt for DCC if needed.

A problem I see if the cue is a traditional wood to wood sneaky pete joint is buying a butt separate may have an overlap. With a black collar on a steel joint this don't really matter but with the wood it can easily chip if hit right on parts of the table. If I was going to buy only a butt and had that joint I would send the shaft to get it fitted. Something to think about if you haven't thought of this.

Thanks for all the help!

So I started by calling Hampton Ridge Billiards, forgetting they were a wholesaler, and he recommended that I try Ozone Billiards or Billiards Warehouse. Called Ozone and they were not the least bit interested in selling the butt without the shaft. So I called Billiards Warehouse, they said, "Sure, let me get the price for you." Comes back with $159 shipped, I say okay, exchange info and it's on the way.

The world's a safer place. :D

Thanks again!

Thanks again!

Did you check on the price for the whole cue from Ozone? What if they had the whole cue for $158! Glad you found what you were looking for. If anything every happens again, my cue is still available to you anytime! Good luck at the DCC!
