Advice?

Andrew... I find myself in very similar situations as you and also started playing 14.1 awhile back. Something that helps me, when I rattle a ball in a good run, instead of re-racking I simply take the ball off the table and continue. I will pause to think about what I did wrong but then go on and see what I can do with the position I left myself. I feel this gives me more practice on finishing the rack and setting up for the next... otherwise, I would not often get there...

Ya it gets a little frustrating when you just make a few and then are done. I practice a ton by myself. Sometimes I end up just banging racks rather than focused practice. I like the tight spots you get into as it makes me see 8 ball totally different. I thought about buying the PAT drills. I know my shotmaking is poor and inconsistent. I do have the goal of being a respectable player, I have an 8 footer at home so I can play alot. Any drill or instructional advice? I have Dr Cue's and the Australian Oyster dvds

The best training aids I ever used were 2 instructional DVD's by Jim Rempe available through Accu-Stats. "How To Run A Rack In Straight Pool" is wonderful at taking apart a single rack off of the most common break shots. Jimmy's commentary is vastly more enlightening and informative than any of the others I've seen.

The second DVD is " How To Run 100 Balls". In this DVD Jimmy goes into deeper detail on patterns and transitioning from rack to rack. I often turn back to the DVD's when I need help, inspiration or when I'm in a rut.
