The pieces I buy are instrument grade. So the tone of the wood is superior, It has a solid "ping" to it. I knew when taking cuts on it, it would hit beautifuly. It sure does give the best ebony a run for it's money.

African blackwood birds eye

The very first 4 point cue i ever made has a butt sleeve with ABW with birds eye. I will dig it out and takes some pics. I didnt sell the first cue i made and didnt sell the first 4 pointer i made just for sentimenal reasons. Ill try to post pics later today.

hi ralf,

i am not looking to buy a cue .. was just asking to see pictures of the "burl" version of blackwood ... i already have non-burl blackwood cues from black boar and mike cochran ....

was looking at sites showing exotic woods and i noticed the burl but the blanks were small and listed good for pens and small boxes, etc so was curious to know if there had bee any cues made from it ...

thanks for the offer though :)

Kam, I have a few nice burly pieces, one in the process of being cut for a certain somebody. My stuff is very black, though & tough to see the figure without very direct & bright light. If you want to see the craziest ABW, try convincing Dick to take a picture of his birdseye blackwood. It's friggin nuts!!! I have been trying to get it from him since I seen it in his shop years ago, but he won't budge. He's saving it for a special cue I guess. It's the bar-none best blackwood I have ever seen.

hopefully, i'll get to see it someday :)

i have read some fabulous stuff about it and would love to see a prime specimen ...

thanks for the info,

I'll get a good close pic on the next cut before I seal it. It's what's called "cluster" burl, meaning that it's generally straight grain base but covered in little clusters of burl. It looks like blisters. Instead of one large piece of burl, it's a bunch of small burls scattered over the piece.

it's amazing what pictures nature can paint ...

thanks ...

the handle...

... is Fiddleback Maple

"all Fiddleback is Curly Maple but all Curly Maple is not Fiddleback.Curly Maple is graded into degrees of curly. Plain curly without a lot of figure is called "Curly", better, more tight figure lines is called "Tiger Maple" and the best, tightest curly that usually covers all four sides of a turning square is called Fiddleback "
