"Aim Small" on the Cue Ball

Roughly. I also know it has little or nothing to do with a pool ball on cloth.

Okay, so you know the basic physics & aerodynnamics of why a baseball curves when a pitcher throws one.

Would you like to bet $500.00 that you could throw one for a strike with no personal experience of ever having thrown one.

My point is that there is much to be said for personal experience. Theories are often proven by physical experience or personal experience.

My analogy relates to maybe a 'full' masse shot, out & back to pocket a ball. You know the physics but would you want to bet $500.00 that you could execute the shot first time without ever having experience in do so.

But my information is based on personal experience.

Parrot puts no faith in personal experience. I've noticed this before. He only looks at info provided by the likes of Dr Dave's site, which in no way can ever be described as 'infotainment'. No. Definitely not. Nope.

I can't get enough of all this physics stuff! Exciting if anything....ermmmm?

Try, dear boy! It is FAR more important than actually playing the game and working it all out for yourself. The top pros are never off Dr Dave's site, and hang on PJ's every word!

So that's where I've been going wrong! I need to get me a doctorate!

Look up non sequitur. The question isn't whether experience is necessary to learn a skill; it's whether experience reliably interprets underlying mechanics.

Who said experience is necessary to learn a skill? Learning a skill is gaining experience.

The second part of your statement is what experience is all about. Knowledge or even common sense says to do one thing but one's experience tells them to do the contary, because of one's experience one 'knows' better than to follow the way of conventional knowledge or even common sense.

That is why personal experience can be so very valuable.

PS Experiance can keep one from making the same mistake over & over again.

Like to call "Experience in pool" consistency, the more consistent a player in potting balls the more knowledgeable. I reserve "experience" to game strategy especially one pocket game

Furthermore, convention wisdom is always proven to be wrong. It's just a matter of time and/or inclination.

That only means that the 'knowledge' was incorrect to begin with. As the saying goes, we don't know what we don't know. It is further proven by people that refuse to believe how something works until they've "figured it out" themselves. Ego/pride can be quite the hurdle. That probably explains why so many players, 1) insist that playing with better players gets the best results, 2) think watching worse players hurts their game, and 3) won't listen to others or try anything because they already know it all.

Brawndo, it's what plants crave. :embarrassed2:

Mr. Banks,

I hear you & concur. A closed 'mind' can be a wasted mind...if it stays closed.

Best Regards,

Deshaine's 3 ball mis

I just got on to the Moscoini Cup coverage & the first thing I see is a slow motion replay of Mike Deshaine(spelling?) missing the 3 ball cut into the corner pocket with the cue ball bouncing off of the cloth.

???????????????????

All the US team players used to taking their time to shoot and think and stall a lot, with 30 sec shot clock they are lost and rushing shots. Hope they recover from today's defeat.

Deshaine gets another 'kick/skid' when using the english bridge.

??????????????
So experience tells us that kicks are attracted to certain personalities.
