I suspect that you see the aim the same from day to day, and what's changing is your stroke. Visit and instructor for a video analysis to see for yourself.

I agree with Mark that it's likely you have some issues with your stroke process. Find an instructor who uses video analysis, and you should be able to improve your consistency considerably. If you're interested, I come through Indy frequently...PM me.

Mike, it takes practice but here is a consistent method to start with to identify the problem your having.

Use the edge of the cue ball and focus on lining that up with the point you perceive is the contact point on the object ball. If you are cutting the ball right use the right edge and if your cutting the ball left use the left edge.

Just set up a medium difficulty cut shot using the right edge of the cue ball and practice the method above until you can comfortably make the shot 10 times in a row. Then set up the same cut, but use the left side of the cue ball.

If you are stroking the shot correctly but have a bad sight picture you will miss the shot the same every time and the object ball will contact the rail near the same location, if however, you miss the shot and drive the object ball to a different part of the rail every time you have a problem with your stroke and follow through.

If you are driving the ball to the same location on the rail when you miss, your stroke is good to go, because you are hitting what you see as the correct point of contact. Now all you have to do is make an adjustment based upon where the object ball is hitting to make the ball in the pocket, and then through practice you need to adapt your sight picture to these changes.

Mike this will give a starting point, that will at least identify what the problem actually is, because it could be stroke / follow through or it could be your site picture.

Last when practicing this do not use any spin on the cue ball, you must use a center ball hit to get repeatable result's.

Hope this helps
