First off i will say Congragulations on you last 2 wins..As a big guy i love see one of us win :) I have a billiard coach who helps me a great deal..he has an incredible game...he recently had me change my aiming system. I used to pick a contact point on the object ball and aim to hit that point. He now has me pick the contact point on the object ball but instead of stoping there and shooting he now has pick the contact point then lower that exact point to the bottom of the ball. In 3 days i was making more ball than before. What aiming system do you use and also..i see so many people get so low on their cue that there chin touches it. As a big guy 370 6 ft tall I cant get that low...since you are the love sponge..do you think this really matters

Shawn's cue touches his chin. He once made a comment that he can't shave his goatee because he's gotten used to it being a buffer between the cue & his skin.

LOL, you can tell I'm bored... Now I'm going through pics of all the tall players to see how far down they get on the cue. Mike Davis is Shawn's height, Corey Harper is just a tad shorter, and Dennis Hatch is a tad shorter than Corey. Here's some pics of how far down they get on the cue.

Thanks so much for the pics..i get down pretty low but just not quite that low to where my chin touches..the cue will rub on my body..(maybe a motivator for me to lose weight) Would any one argue that you shoot better that low vs not...what are the advantages..vs disadvantages .if any

i think for tall big guys getting too low is a bd thing, at least for me it is. It hurts my back, and it feels so uncomfortable to get that low, i cant wait to get up, and this can lead to jumping up after the shot. I used to make sure my cue touched my chin, and my game was up and down. One day i was just playing around with a player who wasnt any competition for me and i wasnt really trying............and as part of that i wasnt getting all the way down on the cue, i was just getting into a comfortable stance and shooting, and i wasnt missing a thing, and thats when i realised how good my stance felt and that i didnt need to be down so low to play well.....and now i shoot about like the guy in the last picture, my game is very good and consistent and no more back pain......im 6'3" 260 by the way. So dont sweat getting down so low, play where youre comfortable and just get used to that, youre game will be better for it.

I think it is easier to see the line of the shot when you are lower on the cue. Furthermore I find it is easier to keep my stroke straight. Perhaps its because my shoulder is locked when I'm down low.

LOL, there's always someone on here willing to argue. :p

It seems like I remember a thread awhile back about this topic. The one thing about pool is that you'll never get a unanimous vote on anything. There's basic guidelines (fundamentals) but most people have different strokes, stances, bridges etc.

Personally I think it's what works best for you. Some people lose sight of the shot when they get down low and others, like myself lose sight of the shot if they don't get low. Try both & see which one works best for you. :)

If you are lower to the ball your arm isn't as free - which means you lose power (Read it somewhere). As for being down on your shot I don't sight down the shaft at all and I'm only 5.7" !!

I just can't stand getting down that low. The object ball looks huge and you can't see any angles. You lose all your 3D perspective.

I also notice a lot of people that have their cue on their chin raise the cue up instead of lowering their head. Notice Shawns picture above. I think a level cue is better.

If you looked at the pictures, how can anyone get a level cue bridging that close to the rail in either picture.

Yeah your right you probably can't too much lower than that. Why do feel it's so important to have your chin on your cue?

This was posted back when Shawn first joined the forum. You should call him. It could be another 2 months before he makes it back here. ;)

Hey all, since Shawn can’t post yet, I’m going to fire out another message from him…

Shawn is a great person at wanting to give back to the community, so if you have any serious pool related issues or questions, you can feel free to call him at any time. It’s his way of wanting to give back to all of the fans that have supported him in his pool playing career thus far (which is only going to skyrocket this year… :p )

Anyways, if you want to drill the mind of Shawn in relation to pool, you can reach him at 330-518-7550. If you don’t get him, he might be in the middle of stringing up a 6 pack, but will respond, hopefully before he takes off for the Masters' Tournament in VA this weekend… :D

I know I slouch pretty bad sometimes, but I am actuall 6' 3 1/2". Mike Davis is 6' 2" and I think Shawn is 6' 4".

Shawn claims to be 6'3 and he swears that Mike is taller than he is because Mike uses a longer cue. Out of the 3 of you, I've seen you the least so it's understandable if I'm a little off. :p

Here's what I was thinking...
Mike 6'4
Shawn 6'3
You somewhere between 6'2 & 6'3

2, 3, 4....you're all pretty darn tall! ;)
