Airline lost bag with son's cues after Junior Nationals trip

Junior Nationals trip over, son finished tied for 13th out of I think 54 kids in his division which is not bad at all considering he was at the youngest age of 15 in the older group.

Got to Logan in Boston, no suitcase.

Custom cue that was given to him as a gift was inside since can't take cues as carry-on. Also a plaque that the BEF gave to the person that runs the New England area junior league and tournaments was in the bag.

Will be fun getting value of a custom cue documented that was a gift if they can't find the thing, never mind the few gifts and mementos from the trip that can't be replaced like his target from when I took him to a gun range there.

I was one of two people that were missing bags on the flight.

I was going from the US to Hamburg to somewhere else I forgot, maybe Vienna,
once and lost a very expensive item, valued at the time about 30k, that I had to
check.
Assumed it was lost and gone when 6 months later (yes SIX) I get a
phone call from the Bahamas!!! saying they had my item. I was never
near the Bahamas but supposedly the item had been around the world
a few times when I finally got a phone call.
Few days later it was in my hand as if nothing had happened.

Moral of the story, not all hope is lost yet.

Hope you and your son gets your stuff back.

Boston? The baggage handlers thought the tag said Bangladesh. My son lost all his military uniforms and some treasures he took from home to his first duty station. They gave him $200 per bag allowance, which didn't begin to cover the loss.

If it is the custom I am thinking of, I can get you an invoice for it documenting value to get a replacement made ASAP.

It's not the one he got from Klapp when he was younger, that one is sitting at home and my daughter uses it.

Ed Bishop sent him the one that is lost (at least for now), I sent him a PM asking to get an invoice for it.

There is a 3,500 claim limit per bag, but that is with receipts, don't know many people that keep receipts for clothing after more than a few days LOL, and they take off depreciation, although for basically a collectable like a custom cue there may not be any depreciation to take. Don't know how they will handle that, I mean it's one of a kind item, tough to point to it for a true value, not like a Joss you can find in 6 different stores.

At least the credit card used for the trip has insurance also on travel so that will make up for anything that falls short of the true value of items lose.

I'll also need to get a value of the OB 30" shafts that were there, those were also gotten in a trade with OB guys directly so there is no receipt for that either.

Probably over $800 in value but gifts.

How long ago was this? I travel all the time and the one or two times a bag wasn't there for me it showed up within 24 hours after being misdirected somewhere. Its actually a good sign that someone else on the flight was missing a bag.

Hate to hear that. Please let us know if they show up. I wish you and your son luck.

Just happened Sat, there is a good chance they will find it, I lost a bag years ago and it was found in a day. That one only had clothing, not a unique cue, more worried about this missing bag than just a regular lost bag. After looking at the form wonder how much trouble they will give me for filing a claim if not found, they are looking for date of purchase, I don't even remember the year I got most of the things packed much less have the day and receipt.

Hi Lazar and Alex. Congrats on your accomplishments....well deserved. Best of luck on getting your things back. I know, it's not the money but rather the memories. As you know the airlines most often get this kind of thing fixed...unless there was some thievery involved. Fortunately you have backup. Mitch

I was one of two people that were missing bags on the flight.

Of the five times I flew Delta in the '90s, I had my baggage lost (temporarily) four times! I no longer trust any airline with valuable baggage.

When I flew to Wisconsin in April, I sent my baggage, including my insured cues, by USPS. Shipped them four days before I left, and they were there when I arrived.

No word from the airline about the bag with son's cue, can't even reach anyone human to talk to, one phone number points to a form where I found the phone number to call in the first place and the form lists a second phone number that goes to voice mailbox that is full.

Filing a claim for the cue and other stuff lost tomorrow, heard bad things about this airline just ignoring people and not contacting anyone or sending them due money over 45 days after a claim.

Good thing is that the person that runs our junior league is a lawyer and has been involved in a ton of travel for pool leagues for years, I can at least count on some quality support if the airline tells me a pool cue is worth $100 at most or something LOL.

Man this sucks but at least you have some help that runs the Junior league. Hopefully by some miracle they find your bag and your son can get his cue back. Wishing you and your son luck.

When my bag disappeared I discovered that there was no coverage for laptops. I think the limit was much closer to $350 than $3500.

Which airline did you fly?

It was Spirit. They don't have coverage for electronics like cameras, laptops and also jewelry and other pricy items (say if you have a stack of old coins), seems that is normal for airlines.

But sports equipment is not on the excluded list which is good for us.

It's a bit odd that there is any allowable restriction at all on what they cover, but they may have had bad experiences with people claiming items were missing that were not in the bag. I can see a total limit but not on what is there. What's the difference if you lose a $500 laptop vs a $500 pool cue? None.

it's been 3+ days - they would have found it by now; usually delivered w/in 24hrs of landing.

who'd you fly? you need to be calling their corporate office, not Customer Service (Delta's in Atlanta).

at this point, you need to file a claim. and make it HIGH$$$$. now THAT, will get their attention to call you back and/or find your bag....

(you can get receipts from anyone herein. another option is to get a "new" receipt for its "replacement", cause he had another tournament this weekend & needed a cue or else lost $____ .)

I see that they have a big problem in that you don't have to show a baggage claim stub to get your bags. Someone could just say that they never got their bag. They did require great steaming piles of documentation before I got my $100 or so of reimbursement.

I don't remember any time I flew that I needed to show something to get my bag, it was just dumped on the carrousel, picked it up and left. Even international flights I took were that way.

Once the bag is lost though they do ask for everything including the original bag check sticker. Got it all ready to send tomorrow, one of the parents in the junior league that I am friendly with is a notary, so will get it stamped and sent over.

Even if I get partial value which I am expecting, the credit card supplemental insurance should cover the rest.

It was Spirit.

Good luck.

We had a bad experience with luggage on a Spirit flight. They were rude, lied to us about where the bag was and in the end, some of the contents were stolen.

The worst part was the attitude of the Spirit personnel.
