Al Bautista Cue

So this is a little pre-mature in a sense, but I really thought this shouldn't wait. Earlier this week I came across a cue that Al was selling on here, shot him a pm and started talking price and specifics. I can't say enough on how great and easy it was to work with Al. Quick responses, and regular updates made it so easy for me. If more cue makers acted like him then us players wouldn't encounter no where near the headaches that we do sometimes. I haven't gotten his cue yet, but if his work matches his great attitude and service I think I may have just got the deal of the century!! I'll update in a couple days after I get his cue and test drive it. But I figured an early Thank You for being so awesome was due, and to help info people if they were considering his work.

Wish you the best,
Dave..

i am eagerly awaiting to read how his cues play... i know it wouldn't be the same as playing with one.. but i see his work here and there and every cue has seemed so impressive.. and it seems very affordable...

good to know he also provides a good personalized service :)

First Day

O.k. so we have some initial comments and observations. (We being my regular pool playing buddy and myself).

Starting with delivery: Was sent via 3 day FedEx which was on timing with the tracking number. The cue was also sent in a 2 butt 2 shaft case which was nice in protecting the cue.

After busting open the box and pulling it out of the case all my friend and I had to say was, WoW !... The picture's do not do it justice. Finish on the butt looked real solid and couldn't fill the inlays in the cue. We checked this because we've seen some cues were the finish wasn't that great and you could fill them. Just holding the butt end of the cue it felt very solid, I did noticed 1 small thing which I'll come back too but it's more of a personal preference thing. Looking at the shafts(we got 2) both seemed to be in real solid condition. I believe Al put on Hard Kamui's we forgot to ask for softs so that was our mistake. Ferrule's on the shafts are Titan, same as I believe the new predator's, not sure yet on how customized Al can go here. One of the shafts had about a nice solid 14 in. taper, not sure of the size yet will mic it later tonight. The second shaft was easily 13mm with a concial(sp) taper, we both like this in that we can real customize it later if need be. The second shaft had two small blemishes but nothing that was like extremely noticeable, we were just really nitpicking at it. Shaft to butt match up was pretty much 100% with both shafts.

As far as the hit goes, we both really liked the hit. Felt pretty solid, and felt like you were hitting thru the ball not just hitting the ball if that makes sense. Did not notice no extreme deflection, and did not take to much time adjusting to most shots. Being it's still the first day we'll have to update again after a couple weeks and able to break it in a little more. I play with a Bobby Hunter cue and my buddy uses a Coker, well should say played as he will be using this now, so as a comparison of those two. It didn't feel as stiff as a BH, but did feel really close to the Coker, probably a little more on the harder side(again still will need to see about this after a couple weeks). The Coker my buddy uses is a little a couple years old, so for all you guys who have hit with an older Coker you'll be able to relate will close.

Overall wise after a first day with the cue it was a very positive experience. There was only one thing that I did not like, and again this is just a personal preference and that was the thickness of the butt. For those that know a B.Hunter butt is a rather skinny and is the same size for the entire length. I have come to really like this, so with the cue from Al it was just a little hard to adjust to having a fatter butt sleeve/wrap. My buddy doesn't seem to mind and thought it was fine.
We are going to weigh it later tonight when we mic it, I believe Al told me it was right under 19oz, but it hardly feels like it as it is balanced very well.

Again this is an initial observation/testing and will update this again as we break in the cue. If there is anything in particular you would like to know or anything you would like for us to test feel free to ask and I'll get back to you.

Glad to hear about your positive experience with Al and his cue. Pls. post pics so we can see what you got exactly.

Couple extra comments:
Mic'd the tapered shaft that we're using to play with, was 12.96 for about 14 in.
Weight was 15.3 for the butt, 3.5 for the shaft, balance wise when put together was real nice.
Shaft was a tad raw, but after my buddy used some wax or something, came out very smooth and silky. So that wasn't an issue at all.
Again any questions or request for test/info please fill free to post or pm me.

Here's some pic's:

Thank you very much Dave for the honest review on my works, really appreciated it buddy. As for the thickness of the butt, i'm sorry since the cue was not customized to your specs, it was ready available.
And to be clear to all, i have these parameters of my cues,
Buttcup: 31.7 to 32 mm.
A-joint: 25.8 to 26.5 mm.
Joint connection: 21.6 to 22 mm.

As for the shafts, here a little link that might help.

All my cues has 1Al1 shafts and i've been selling cues here on Az.
Only one man from U.S. discovered that the shaft has a technology inside.
I think they all thought that it was just a simple conventional shafts.
Oops, i'm already telling my little secrets here.:)

Where are you from?

I would like to echo all the this review and sentiments that Dave has posted in this thread of Al Bautista's cues and funnily enough, Dave has actually got a cue stick is exactly the same design as mine and I can wholeheartedly say that this cue hits smooth, solid and I'm totally glad and happy with the investment I made in buying one of Al's cues

I can definitely say that Al Bautista's cues hit as awesome as they look and I can honestly say that Al Bautista makes a top class cue stick

Thanks for great review deuel!!! It's exciting to hear of another happy customer of Al's talking about their experience and playability of his cues...
Both you and Wizard's cues are stunning looking. His eight point cue with butterflies in amboyna into ebony is the cue that caught my eye and led me to research Al's cues and reputation, which is stellar everywhere I found to read about 'em...
so I'm in the early stages of having a custom 60", similar to the previously mentioned cue that caught my eye...only in a Celtic theme with silver Celtic knot rings in all positions, and Celtic crosses included somewhere thruout in the ebony in abalone and silver...super excited, especially after reading your review and talking with others that have and shoot with Al's cues...

Again, beautiful cues deuel and Wizard...and thanks for the review...well done!!

Al's Cues

Boy am i sure glad to hear about all these excellent feedbacks about Al's cues. I myself is waiting for my own cue from Al. My contact from the Philippines informed me that mine would be the very first 12 pointer ivory tulip he's ever done to reach the U.S. soil according to Al. Its already in transit and literally cant wait to have it in my own hands. Will post some pics of the said cue stick as soon as i recieve it as per Al's request!!!
