I humbly disagree with what you're saying and here's why:

1) ANYONE and I stress ANYONE can play bad on video and have an off day. I've watched countless touring pros absolutely dog it and spray balls non-stop. Does that mean they play bad? A day later they might never ever miss, ever.

2) I've personally played with pros ranging from elite HOF players to the average journeyman pro. I played Gene while on a business trip in MN. He played REALLY well. The guy is a great player and plays at the top of the "instructor" heap of players.

3) Losing to Chris Bartram doesn't mean anything because Chris is a fuggin' terminator. I like how Gene is stepping up. We don't see any other instructor matching up with Chris. So being quiet and minding your own business equates to good business and stepping out once in a while to see what you're made of equates to hurting your business if you don't click like you should?

Just the fact that Gene is playing, in my opinion, lends credit to his teaching business.

One of the smartest guys on AZ
Good post as usual.

Agreed.

I agree with this too for the most part. I came on here and made what I felt was a fairly innocuous post. Scott called it "BS" and it got me going a bit.

I still think that Gene is putting himself out there and there are risks associated with that. This is similar to how Stan Shuffett put himself out there when he played in the U.S. Open 9 Ball. Stan did well and I think this gave his instruction even more credibility. Now some people can say that it shouldn't matter how well an instructor plays, and they may or may not be right. I wasn't looking to argue that. That wasn't my point and if anybody thought it was I don't think they were reading my post very clearly.

I do think Gene is one of the most visible instructors on AZ and his teaching method -- Perfect Aim has been scrutinized quite a bit on here. I imagine there are quite a few players on this site that would give Perfect Aim another look if Gene plays well, but if the wheels come off....

Anybody else have thoughts?

I have a thought.

I think a couple of conspiracy theorists in this thread keep talking
out of the side of their mouth trying to drop hints that this is some con,
like maybe chris will dump to gene and make some lucky side bettors rich.

I think they do this because it makes them feel smart,
like "check me out, I've been around the block and I can spot the hustle a mile away.
I'm a Man In The Know."

I think it's a shitty thing to hint at, when we're talking about two guys
who have good reputations and are always in action, and have made
plenty of games without incident.

Now go ahead and tell me "that's not what I meant at all!
You're reading too much into this!"
CREEDO
The one part you quoted is pretty much a generalization. I doubt it's happening in this match. These guys have a lil grudge going, but I just don't see what Gene has to gain?
Are they hoping to sell a bunch of PPV to get some money that way? I don't think this matchup will get many viewers. JMHO
I can see Chris getting some pretty easy money.
So, Creedo, no conspiracy theory here. I just wondered what others thought.\? Also, my other question was "what is in the middle"? I found that answer on page 14 of the other thread.
Interesting how these threads can take on a life of their own. Sometimes they morph into something other than intended. Interesting indeed.......

Hey Tuscon and others,

Maybe it's as simple as a man feeling pretty good @ his game, wanting to get in the big boy box and test his mettle? He's fired up, with incisors filed down. The zoo keeper left his cage unlocked. Gotta give Geno cred for wanting to tangle with the Smooth Criminal.

Both Great

I have played and known Mark Wilson for years, he is with out a doubt, one of the best player instructors ever. I think Gene beats Mark when they were both in their prime for the cash. Mark was more of a tournament player. Both great players but Gene was the money player, just my thoughts.
I agree. Mark Wilson was much more comfortable at big table games and loved tournament play. Gene was a Bar Table Specialist and thrived on the heat of action. Two Styles, Two Great Players!

I can't recall if Gene and Jeff Carter ever got into a match up back then???? Jeff was around Beloit and Rockford quite a bit back then.

It will be a fun match!
