I don't do the reviews as often as I should, sometimes due to time constraints...mostly due to laziness...but this cue has really struck me, so I'm going to take the time to do this today!
I had seen a couple of Alex's cues show up here on AZ, and had no idea anything about him...so, when this cue popped up for sale, I took a chance as I really liked the looks of the cue!
This is Alex's 6th cue that he has offered for the "public" (I don't know how many "practice" cues he produced)...I'll say that again...his 6th cue...there is already a thread in the gallery for additional pictures (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=264184).
So, appearance versus performance:
Appearance: What's to say other than look at the pictures - there are so many good things to say about the looks of the cue...the use of paper veneers...the bridged veneers...the ivory inlays in every nook and cranney...the overall design of the cue - phenomenal!
Performance: When I received the cue from the original owner, he had not played the cue that much. When I got it, I noticed something with the shafts, so I contacted Alex and he readily agreed to look at the shaft taper. I got the cue back yesterday afternoon and got the chance to play a couple racks with it. His adjustment on the taper was spot-on.
I just finished playing with this cue for the last hour or so. I have to say, I was excited to get the 9-ball sunk as it meant starting another game with this cue...it truly is one of THE BETTER hitting cues I've had in my hands!
I've had a few cues where I feel like the cue is capable of doing the work that I want done on the table...the way you're "supposed" to feel when shooting pool...rather than feeling like I have to make up for what the cue is "lacking" - well, this is definitely one of those cues! The cue weighs 19.84oz with the shaft I have on it (12.82mm), with a balance point of 19.5in from the end of the butt...its balance point is spot-on for me!!!
So, I can honestly say I'm more than pleased with the aesthetics of the cue, the playability of the cue and the overall "dealing" with Alex himself!!!
Thanks again Alex for everything!
