Alex Pagulayan vs. Corey Deuel, US Open One Pocket Final, Live Now!

I gather Alex stormed back from 2-4 down to take it 5-4. This is the second time he's spotted the opponent the hill in a 1P final and had to win 3 straight.

Alex is hitting 'em good right now.

Yes, just 2 weeks ago at the Don Coates Memorial Alex was down 2-4 against Justin Bergman and won 5-4.

So it seems he's playing a bit better now than he was last June, when he went 0-5 in matches (5-15 in games) at the Accu-Stats Make-It-Happen One-Pocket Invitational.

So now he moves on to straight pool. The event includes some giants of 14.1, and Alex claims he doesn't know much about 14.1, but should we be surprised if he wins that, too?

Was Dennis in the 1p tourney?

The page shows that he is, but dont recall seeing his name mentioned any.

No, he got stuck in an airport and didn't get to CT in time. But he is playing in the 14.1 -- he was on the first streamed 14.1 match last night.

he beat Schmidt 2 times at the DCC in SP 10-12 yrs ago-One of the times it was 300-298. Didnt play classic SP but he knows how to pocket and win.

That result always puzzled me. Alex had won the DCC 1P in January, then had just beaten Frost in the marathon ahead session in Vegas, so it is not like he was out of practice or not in form. Maybe he was just burnt out from the Frost match?

A bit of burnout is quite possible. Didn't he and Frost play over 100 games?

And MIH was real short races (3).

i have thought for awhile now in 15 to 2o years alex will be thought of as the best all around player of his generation......one pocket 4 sure

For the benefit of those not following the straight pool subforum, Alex is reported to have the high run of 125 and out, as well as an 88 and out. Not bad for a guy who doesn't know much about 14.1

lol

Out of curiosity, if anyone has seen him playing, is he playing somewhat classic straight pool or just being a force of nature and having huge runs on pure talent and pool knowledge?

Alex is pretty modest and honest about his game.....
...but he plays his best under heat regardless.

So when the pressure is lessened, he may or may not perform well.
He was also making a drastic diet change....
...he had a tournament that he couldn't beat anybody in....
...gave me a call....said...get off that diet.....
...it worked.....vegan ain't for everybody.

I have to believe snooker has helped his straight pool game

I think he'd lean more toward the latter, but pool is pool and I think he'd be shooting the 'right' shot 90+% of the time

I remember the first time I laid eyes on Alex or heard of him for that matter - same goes for Rodney Morris too, same tourney. We were at a McDermott tour stop in Salisbury, Md. I was very impressed with Rodney, but I was in awe watching this kid - Alex. Even pretty much a kid myself I KNEW he was something special the first time I watched him play, I also won some good cheer betting on his matches😆

I asked in another thread how Alex would fare against Efren in his prime at 1 pocket. The consensus was that Efren would handle him easily. What separated Efren peak 1 pocket game from Alex?
