The All Japan Championship starts this week. Qualifiers on the 17th and 18th, main event starts on the 19th.

Link to preliminary brackets in English for the Men's and Women's division plus the time schedule. Blank areas in the bracket should be filled by players from the qualifiers.

Wow, another superb field. We pool fans have really been treated to a surfeit of pool events for the last couple of months.

So we have two more great events coming up over the next week+ -- the Accu-Stats MIH 8-Ball Invitational starting Thursday at noon (USA east coast time) and the All Japan Championship main event starting Friday at 9:40 pm (USA east coast time).

Fortunately, because of the big time difference (14 hours for me), people who don't need to sleep can watch both events!

Just glancing at the brackets on my phone, I see Efren, Alex, LeeVan, Johann Chua, Ko brothers, + more.

Men's brackets say 9-ball...is this correct or is it just a typo? The last 2 have been 10 ball events...

Good observation Marky Mark. It isn't a typo. Last year was 10 for the Men and 9 for the Women. 9 for both this year. Circled the info on the last 2 years banners.

Marky Mark, haven't run into any current details on who breaks, race etc. Most of the big events in Japan are winner breaks and it was that way last year. Will update if the info comes out.

;)

There is additional info on the JPBA website for the Women's division. The races will be 7 & 9 and alternating break.

Thanks, snuuker. Looking forward to this
After 10 ball tourneys crashed some years with demise of W10B (which Pacquiao tried to revive last year for only 1 year) as result of turf fights, All Japan was biggest 10B tourney in world for past few years when it switched from 9B to 10B . But now it is back to 9B .
This year's field is much weaker with fewer Euros but still attracts top Filipinos and Taiwanese. It is shadow of its former self with winners prize only half of the $30K some years ago. Not to be confused with Japan Open which has much weaker field

Past winners included notable elites-
Efren
Buste
Yang
Ralf
Thorsten
Mika
Corey
Wu
Ko Pin Yi
Chang Jung Lin
Johann Chua
Lee Van

Am surprised to see Mika playing in qualifiers this year. Looks like even ex-winners do not give free pass to Main Event

:D

lol... I don't travel much, but this one is memorable.

My wife and got on the subway one evening in Budapest HUN. We didn't understand the writing and the map. So we guessed... How wrong could we be?

We were the only ones in the nice subway car. We could see out the sides and the front. It tooled along for a while through the dark tunnel and then started slowing down. When it was almost stopped we noticed there were no platforms on the sides, only concrete walls. Strange for a subway stop... Then the car came to a complete stop, and we noticed a concrete wall IN FRONT of the car. It was the end of the track.

"I think the other way would have been better," one of us said.

Then the engine cut out...

Then as we were looking at one another in bewilderment, in the silent stopped subway car with concrete on the sides and the front,

the lights went out.

We were silent for a bit. Then one of us said into the darkness,

"This isn't good."

A minute or so later the lights and the engine went back on and the car started going the other way.
