i've witnessed many a pro in my day, i'm 43 years old, and i will declare here and now, i have never seen a pro more correct as mz. fisher. she is as close to perfect as any human can be. and if i'm not mistaken, and please correct me if i'm wrong, she has the most incredible record in all of cuesports. meaning, she has been ranked #1 longer than any other pro, and has been honored with player of the year 8 times, more than any other human. when people come to me for lessons, i teach them the allison fisher style of cuesports. no flash, show me the cash. complete control, no exessive cue ball roll. split the pocket, not your pants. in other words, pure true harmonic, non-rushed pool, the way it should be played, not too slow, not rushed. it's true allison's best days are behind her now, i'm afraid to say, although she still is #1 in the world, and has 2003 player of the year honors. her best work in 9-ball was 1998-1999. that was classic fisher, and i know many males will complain about what i'm about to say now, but here it goes------- in her heyday 98'-99, she could have KILLED any male pro on earth regardless who they were. and yes, her break was the worst in the industry, but you know what? IT DIDN'T MATTER!!!!! that's how great her game was! since winning the 2000 14.1 continious open in N.Y.C. she currently holds 3 titles---- the greatest female that ever played snooker, straight pool and 9-ball, making her the ULTIMATE cuesport artist. yes, bring on the nay sayers, the insults, the bustamante would have killed her comments, i don't care. allison fisher is as close to perfect as god allows.

Hahaha! Posts like this give me a great chuckle. I guess you are what a fan should be. Totally devoted to his idol. I envy you. I wish I could be like you and only see the positive in things. But when I attended the 14.1 event in NY and saw the women and Alison in particularly I truly saw how the women were leagues behind the men. Playing side by side with the men I knew that Fisher could not stand up to any of the men in the competition when it came to straight pool. And she stood heads above the rest of the women. What was her high run 45? Many hundreds were run by men and even Efren who does not play any straight pool at all ran a couple of hundreds. Alison is great but she no where comes close to the top mens pro. This in no way puts her down. She does not have the experience of competing agains that type of caliber. But being aware of this reminds me that DE NIAL is not a river in Egypt.
Oh yes I am much older than you and if you wanted to see perfect you should of seen Mizerak in his prime. Like butter!

Based on many interviews with her I've read over the years, I'd have to say that Ms Fisher does not share your point of view on the above subject.

Greatest female player of all time.....yes
Beat all the guys in her prime.....I don't agree

believe it or not that was the third time fisher ever played straight pool!

But she played world championship level snooker for years.....there are several obvious corrolations between the two games

I think karren Corr is right on her Heelsm and will soon knock her off the hill

You all ever heard of or seen play and I have, Willie Mosconi, Ralph Greenleaf, Irving Crane, Jimmy Caras, Willie Hoppe, Luther Lassiter. She is not even in their league, not even close. She can't even carry Efrens jock strap into a pool hall, he can give her the 6 and rob her blind. Wake up what you are seeing on TV people, the last two events shown, ga young has a tom cruise out, 3 straight in shots to win Wonder Dog could make with his nose and she chokes like a dog or closes like an apa 2 and loses.
Next week the black thing plays spike hair do and they play 13 games and neither one runs a rack. I can see higher level play down at my local bar by two nobodies. These guys can at least break and run out without choking. You are seeing a lot of semi pro's playing semi amateurs, you need to watch real men play real pool, that is running racks. All you see these people do on tv is break bad, push out, play safe and run 5 balls, big friggin deal, it bores me she yet less. The other thing that chaps my a** is on every shot, even straight in ones, the audience applauds and claps, what do they have, a room full of morons or some big hollywood sign that flashes after ever shot that says applause? Then there is the highlight greatest shot of the match, that's the big one, she shoots one foot around a ball, hits the rail and pots a hanger, a DF 1 in Artistic on a scale of 11. It is all one giant joke. The product sucks. Don't shoot the messenger. :D

oh tell it like it is dude, miz ran 400, mosconi ran 526, Cranfield and Eufemia ran in the 600's, the dutchess of doom runs 45, I rest my case...:D

Fast Larry,

The point I was trying to make is that though she may have only played Straits 3 times prior to her winning the NY Title, she's no stranger to the stratagy and types of shots involved. Snooker has many similar shots, i.e pot the black and break out a red with a chance to pot it and keep the run going.

This whole post is nothing short of a joke. First, does anyone here really think Allison Fisher is NOT the best WOMENS 9-ball player EVER? If you dont think so, then who IS? Mr Corr? Ms Balukas? Come on, I agree they are all great players, but only ONE has the record and that is Allison. Keep in mind that before any of us ever saw Allison play, we already had some "great women players", AND SHE RAN OVER ALL OF THEM LIKE A MACK TRUCK!!! THEY had to learn to play HER GAME in order to compete. For the most part, none of the women players have even come close. I am yet to see even ONE woman player on the same level. Its easy to compare her to Jean Balukas, since only one is still playing. The question is the, HOW MANY WOMEN PLAYERS WERE THERE WHEN BALUKAS WAS IN HERE PRIME, THAT PLAYED AS WELL AS THE TOP WOMEN PLAYERS WE HAVE TODAY?? Lets just state FACTS, not exhibition, games vs. men that may/may not have been fixed, or plain hype. Just the FACTS.

Your facts are correct and I agree with everything you say, Allison is the best woman player now and has been every since she arrived. The top 5 women all play great, mens speed, I have said that before. Get out of the top 10 and their performance can get shaky and far under what men play at. A lot of their performances on TV are less than exciting to me, some are, some are not.

Allison is nice looking, dresses nice, decent figure, handles the media well, she is a credit to the game. The facts are Efren can give her the 6 and own her and half of England. I think comparing the women to the men in abilities is not the right thing to do in the first place. In Tennis, Golf, all other sports, everyone knows the women don't play near the men, same in pool.

You take the women and compare them to each other, that is the only thing that is fair. If Allison plays balukas today, she wins big, what does that mean, the lady has been retired for years and spends most of her time playing with the locals in her daddies pool room in Brooklyn. The only comparison possible would be to bring Jean in her prime here today in some time machine and then match them up. Then and only then would you know who was best. All that is important is that both were the best in their era and beat the best around them at that time. Saying she beat Ray Martin is silly also, Ray also has been retired in Tampa for decades and is a teacher. She beat a senior citizen long out of the game, that means nothing, zero. If she played him in the 70's in his prime at 14.1 he would have gone through her like do do through a goose.

Don't shoot the messenger. He is nothing but a reporter giving you the news of what's going down, you don't get mad at the anchor on the 6:00 news, don't get mad at me for I am just a reporter like him. :D

Hey,

If it's the match I saw in New Bedford MA, Busta beat her hill-hill in an unbelievable match. Prior to it starting I would not have given Karen a chance but she definitely proved me wrong. They gave each other a big hug after as well for the hard fought battle. One of the better matches I have seen in person.

Regards,
Dave

Indiana Guy, as far as my personal opinion, Jeannie Balukas was the best female pool player that I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, a lot of those other girls play well, too, but it just seemed like to me, pound for pound, Jeannie just had a little something more to give than the others.

When I was younger, I had Robin Bell under my wing, and I thought for the money that she could beat anybody herself, even Jeannie. None of the girls back then ever really got up and bet money. They were all tournament-inclined, but if I was to have to put my money on the top females back then, I would have to take Jeannie and Robin for my dough.

As far as Allison goes, she is really dedicated to the sport and hard to beat. She would have been hard to beat back then, considering before she came to the U.S., she was mainly a snooker player. If she played 9-ball when all those other girls started playing 9-ball and had the experience back then as she does now, 15 years ago, I'm pretty sure nobody would have beaten her.

The facts are this. There were not as many opportunities available for women pool players back then as there are today. Years ago, the women were having to play against the men, and actually, there were only a couple that stood out. When they got their own pool tour together, it provided a way for the women to really show their talents. As we see today, they do have a lot of talent. Actually, the women have a better tour than the men, and I wish that I could be gelded and go on their tour.

This is kind of off topic but I was impressed. At the APA last year Robin Dodson(Bell) and Jan McWorter were taking on all challengers in a contest to win a Gold Crown Table. They played probably 50 games each every day. Sometimes I would just sit and watch them play for 30 minutes or so. Both of them usually ran out at the first available shot. They banked and kicked with precision. These two are definitely players in my opinion and they don't even play on the tour. Male or female, if you run out when you are supposed to then you are a good player.

There was a time when the old folks use to say "if its printed in the newspaper it must be so". Well it took decades to prove that was not so. Papers print false info and ideas everyday. Now we see it on the internet. Any one with a half informed ridiculous opinion can post it. That does not make it so!
Yes Alison is a great cueist. Yes there are some great women players past and present. Robert Byrne talks about a Japanese woman in the 50's who beat everybody in straight rail billiards. Who could run in the 10,000's.
But Alison in her prime beating any man in the late 90's. Laughable! If you believe that there is a little bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you, real cheap.

The thing that really impresses me about Allison's game, at least from what I see on TV, is her ability to stroke the ball so effortlessly. Her stroke sort of reminds me of Buddy Hall's stroke. She has that pause after she draws back the cue which is really similar to Buddy's. When she puts a lot of stroke on the ball, you don't see her make any visible extra effort and yet she gets where she wants to go most of the time.

Green Guy,

What did she do to you? Did she tell you to "bugger off" or something?

Fast,

I forgive you! LOL You and Ray Martin are about the same age. Bet Ray Martin could beat your crusty old a _ _. You could play for that bow wow of yours and if Ray wins I get to feed the dog to the gators. Just kidding I would rather feed you. In fact Sarah could beat your crusty old a _ _. Oh, Ray Martin is a very nice gentleman who was very nice to me.

Thanks but I have my pool heros and none of the ladies I like are going away anytime soon. So get used to it! I like and respect Allison Fisher but I am not as impressed with her as you. So your HO has been noted. "YAWN"

Cheers,

Gremlin

I am a friend and a hugh fan of Ray Martin. This is a 3 time world champion and hall of famer. I am not even in this guys league. Yes, you are right, if we played today, he would kick my ass, no question about that. :D

Rick W,

The stroke you speak of is the stroke of a snooker player. The elbow does not drop and the pause you speak of is where the power of the stroke emanates from.

Kimmy Shaw taught me the stroke last year and I am still trying master it. It is a great stroke to learn.

Where did you get the idea that Allison Fisher has miss treated me? Allison Fisher is an outstanding lady with wit, charm and grace. Sorry old man, Allison Fisher has never treated me in anyway other than that of oustanding lady.

I am not an Allison Fisher fan you do understand that old man I hope? Here is an Allison Fisher photo for you.

Cheers,

Gremlin

Gremlin, my dear man, I got the idea from you of course. The following is a quote from one of your previous posts,

"So tell me then what men has Allison Fisher beat the hell out of? LOL You really know how to pluck my twanger Froggy. I am tired of Allison Fisher and you are going to see some big changes this 2004 season."

"I am tired of Allison Fisher" sounds to me like you have some sour grapes or something. Unlike you, I have not had the privelege of being around so many beautiful lady pool players so I can only surmise from what you post on this board.

I know I've thanked you before for always providing the wonderful pictures, but it bears repeating every now and then because those pictures certainly dress up this board nicely!
