Alternative materials in points

Was wondering if anyone has ever thought about using materials other than wood or ivory in points? Had a silly thought about using some plastic that I saw where the edges were buffed out and looked like they were glowing. I saw something in one of the Mart stores made out of the stuff and for some reason I thought of using it as a veneer. It's probably a stupid idea, but I thought I might ask here and get some opinions, maybe even spark some creative thoughts for some of the cuemakers here. Thoughts?

I think Viking has made cues with pearlized plastic points, also, I think there are some Meuccis with plastic points as well.
I don't know if they are still made but, there was a company called Oliver Stops Originals that made the entire butt of the cue out of a plastic looking material called wingopas.
I am sure there are others.

I made a cue for my wife using white plastic for one of the veneers. It worked fine. I made extra sure that the wood around it was very well seasoned, as just with silver rings, it can tend to create a ridge as the wood next to it moves or shrinks. It has seen some abuse and a few days in a hot car, and still looks fine.
