Am I a ball banger?

Hey man, I apologize if I came off as having bad forum etiquette and being a little, um, forward. I tend to give myself credit for being much more memorable than I actually am sometimes.

>>Hmmmmm is right. Not only are you guys close to my area, Mike knew who I was and saw me shoot!

I haven't figured out yet who Mike is, or never knew his last name. I am sure I would know if I saw him...time for a PM...

FYI...I never type anything I would never say to someone face to face. Look at a good example here why not to. Oh well, back to work.>>

Apologize for what? No worries. I don't get where you were in anyway way forward at all.

I was just saying that some people on MBs like to brag, boast, and misrepresent themselves, and would be embarrassed to have been "discovered" by someone else. I would have been disappointed if you didn't come forward knowing who I am.

If you are a true APA 5 you are beyond the level of being a ball banger and should be an intermediate level player with decent instinct and stroke.

The cue , however, gets no points in my book. I have a good friend who is a strong APA 7 who plays with a no name sneaky pete that he bought used for $30 and put a new tip on it.

By the same token , I know ball bangers who have thousands of dollars worth of playing cues, break cues, jump cues, etc., who would be better off using them for walking sticks.

I couldn't agree more with the part about the cue. I was just trying to be funny, but thanks for chiming in with the skill level part. I really don't know what some people would consider a ball banger to be, and your explanation helps.

I would have to say that if all you play is barbox 8 ball and (perhaps) bar-box nine ball for the APA, then yeah. You are a ball-banger. Thats just my opinion though because I hate the APA.
I also hate the APA, but that in itself doesn't make anyone a banger.

Some others may have more strict parameters, but here's what characterizes a banger for me:

1. always *tries* to shoot hard but frequently miscues(hence, a banger);
2. plays to pocket one ball at a time;
3. NEVER lets the guy on the next table take the shot first, and frequently bumps you when you're already down on the shot;
4. resents safety play;
5. stands in front of the pocket you're shooting at;
6. puts drinks on the rails;
7. is UNABLE to take a shot without comments, grunts, or laughter;
8. puts on a pose and thinks because he tried to "backspin the white ball" they are a step above the rest;
9. thinks the $ value of the cue makes him a good player;
10. they always finish the game by trying to hit the balls directly in the pocket faster than, and simultaneously with the opponent;
11. am I solids or stripes?
12. scoops the cueball for a jumpshot;
13. yaps about "english" but doesn't know to use it;
14. plays "safeties" by taping the cueball w/o going to a rail;
15. thinks he's THE pro for playing in the APA;

I don't think you're a banger Gregg, just from what you've said in the forum. I just generally hate people who don't take the game seriously and try to compensate for that with posturing! Hate bangers!!!

BTW, one could be in their early learning stages and not be a banger. Just being studious and respectful of the game disqualifies you as a banger. Or so I hope, otherwise I'd have to be a banger myself.

Don't forget:

16) Goes for the 'flashy', tougher/near impossible shot instead of the easy pot

If you need to ask the question, then yes, you're probably just a ball banger.

As for the cue, well you can put a dog in a Ferarri, but he's still not going to know how to drive.

"ball banger" summarized in one rule...

A ball banger is someone that could not tell if he/she had double-hit the CB, let alone not knowing it's a foul.

I play in the CPA but I think that the skill levels are the same as the APA, anyway I know a SL 7 and SL 6 that just use house cues, so do I call them bangers because they haven't even got their own cue, I don't think so, last session I played the 7, I got 1 shot in the first 2 games and that was a break in the 1st game.

I'm just curious since I'm not familiar with leagues. How do the league rating systems equate to scores in the solitary game of equal offense?

For example, an apa 5 would have what average score in equal offense?
