Am I Getting Smarter?

had this shot tonight to go from the 1-Ball to the 2-Ball. instead of trying to ease it into position for a shot in the top left corner i hit it a little harder. that way i felt i ensured myself a shot into either the top left corner, side, or bottom right corner. hit the shot with a little left english.

i ended up about Point A and pocketed the 2-Ball down into the bottom right corner, and managed to run this rack. i bet a long time ago i would have tried to play pin point perfect position and get a shot into the top left corner, and ended up on the 50 yard line.

did i do good? did i do bad?

I think you did well, because you ran out. However, after studying the layout I would have tried this...

Still learning WEI so I couldn't show english, but I was thinking, low left english at medium/hard speed.

The reason I chose this shot is because I have two pockets to shoot at; either the side or upper left corner. Also I could bump the 8 and shoot the 2 in the right bottom corner.

The only reason I like this shot better is because I think it leaves more options if I don't hit it perfect.

I would have to give this a try on the table, but I think I could make it work.

When you can walk across the ricepaper without making a sound, then and only then will you be ready grasshopper. ;)

DCP,

You played it perfectly. You took the highest percentage route. If you run into the 8, you end up straight in on the 2. If you don't, you will end up on the 2 in the side or corner, depending on your speed. You ARE playing position on three pockets, but you take ZERO chance of hooking yourself behind the 3, unlike the other option.

Good job. I think you very well may be learning. Try to look for "natural" position routes, which it looks like you've done in this case.

Again, well done.

edit: MY BAD. I was wrong. You wouldn't be playing position on three pockets with this route.

You be playing position on FOUR. :D :D :D :D You can also get straight in on the 2 into the top right corner pocket. The other option provided does not give this opportunity because the angle would lead away from the 3.
