If there is one shot i really do not miss, regardless of pressure, it is the long straight ins. (dont worry im not bragging, i still miss cuts like its no ones buisness) The reason for this is early on, someone told me if the shot is straight in, all you have to do is fixate on the very bottom of the ball, and if your stroke is straight, the shot should always go in.

The reason for this post is i am asking if anyone else uses the bottom of the ball method, because everytime i try to teach this to someone, they have problems using it and discard it. Anyone have any input?
I have used this method or if I am on the rail just shoot through the ball and aim for pocket.;)

I was taught to focus on shooting the cue ball directly into the pocket.
I also tend to hit the long straight in shots firm.

I think you have a better chance of making the shot if you concentrate first on hitting the cue ball exactly where you are stroking at it. When you get down, you have your sight line, then you concentrate on the cue ball, then after you have that dialed in, without moving your head, you look at the pocket, then the spot on the ball where you need to hit it, then pull the trigger. All these things need to happen, and the order probably doesn't need to be in that exact order.

There are times when you can just walk up and fire the shot in on autopilot. But, if you can go through your little process and make the shot most of the time, you will have more confidence.
