I think it's usually the grip tightening (clenching) during the stroke that moves the butt and therefore the tip. Both loose and tight grips can work if they don't clench during the stroke.

when i lived in miamiI've seen that a lot. Is bird holding a common activity people do when I'm not around?
I had a cue with a super glue finish once. It was great for me!Plain varnish/poly/superglue does it for me.
I think the ideal is really that your forearm is perpendicular to the cue at contact (usually a little back from perpendicular to the floor because the stick is always at least a little raised). With the forearm perpendicular to the stick your grip hand travels in a nearly straight line (parallel with the cue) for a few inches before and after contact. With the forearm perpendicular to the floor your grip hand is already traveling upward from the cue's angle (and the tip is "dipping") at contact.Sometimes it’s as simple as your forearm is not perpendicular to the floor at contact,
Bare wood or lightly matted also works. Anything wrapped that's not glossed over I lacquer myself.I had a cue with a super glue finish once. It was great for me!
I usually prefer an Irish linen wrap to no wrap. The tighter and more level or pressed it is the better. I also like no finish in the handle area of s sneaky Pete cue.
