Amboyna Burl Sneaky Pete?

Hi guys,

I am one of those guys that prefers a very plain cue. A well-made full splice sneaky is what tickles my fancy. Now I have seen quite a few custom cues made with Amboyna Burl, but I've never seen a sneaky pete made with it. From what I understand AB requires to be cored due to it's unstable nature, which may make it less suitable for a sneaky, I don't know, not a cuemaker.
Is there anyone out there that makes AB SP's? Would you do it? Or am I asking for the impossible (or very impractical)?

I would suggest a 4 point short splice cue with a ambyna burl handle/butt sleeve. Chris.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm really only interested in a full splice. I don't like the look of a different wood in the handle vs the points, it's just not for me.

Dave. I meant to have a 4point forearm with amboyna burl points and have a 1 piece handle/butt made of cored amboyna burl. You will have the look of a sneaky but there will be a line at the base of the points. Just a thought. Chris.

Not a cuemaker so I hope no one spanks me and takes away my birthday for posting here, but if anyone undertakes this and it is ok with Dave I would love to see pictures.

I am not a fan of shortie s/p's but if you go that route I would still love to see pictures.

Thanks for overlooking the cuemaker forum post in advance,

-Mike

off the subject totaly but that's a cute dog in the picture.

Thank you! She'd go through a wall for me, and I would do the same for her.

I see what you mean, however this too would not really be an option for me, unless the cuemaker could make the line as good as invisible, with the grain running straight trough. I appreciate the suggestions, but I really do want a full splice. If that would not be an option I'd go the plain jane route.

You wouldn't think I'd get me a possibly one-of-a-kind sneaky and NOT show it off here, would you? There will be plenty of pics, if I can get me one.

I am in the process of building one right now. I will take some pics and post them tomorrow.

Are you making one from scratch or did you find a Qmaker to build you a blank?...JER

That looks like bocote to me too. I think just the butt sleeve is amboyna burl. Id love to see pictures of one too.

oh, sorry. Looks like only a small piece of A. Burl was used for the butt cap.

I turned this from a square. After I posted I realized mine is not Amboyna Burl but Quilted Bubinga Burl. It is not a full spliced cue and I have not finished with the inlays in the forearm yet, but you should be able to get the general idea.

This is a double point J/B cue, points in the handle as well as the forearm with a Uni-loc joint.

I get the general idea, and I like it! Thanks for sharing! I would like the woods reversed in my cue, looking for an Amboyna handle, but in the nose that burl looks very nice aswell.

The Burl is the handle. The points that you see are on the bottom of the cue. The Birdseye is the forearm.
