Would you please comment on this wood?

I have been told that it is "restless" and "brittle" and must be cored to be used in a cue and that it is prone to minor cracking over time.

I love the look of this wood and was thinking about getting a cue made from it but want your opinion before going any farther.

Thanks,

Ron

All of the above plus a few other drawbacks. The wood is way to soft even if it is cored. It really needs to be resin impregnated to stabilize it before use as a structural component in a cue.

some of it is pretty brittle and soft and i am not crazy about using it for big pieces in cues, but i think it is OK as a handle when cored big, like .875".i would probably pass on it as a forearm cored or not.

I've made a few, cored with maple plywood. (3/4" core) They've all come out very nicely, hit well, and are nice and stable. This one has ivory veneers only, no points.

nice cue Sheldon.

for the record,i have seen some Amboyna alot stronger than other Amboyna.some of it i am sure would be fine for any part of the cue.
