hey guys i have a AMF playmaster table not the greatest but it sits in my barn so i didnt want anything to over the top, but about 1.5yrs ago i had a local mechanic come out and re do the table and he put the black rubber diamond tables cushions on it with simonis 860 and on 2 of the rails if you hit anywhere over a medium stroke the ball will pop in the air off of the rail:angry:

question is, if put some washers under the rail and raise the cushion height would this make it stop?

washers may be too much height, try using any extra pool table cloth or something similar and lay it under the rails and then re-tighten.

I cant believe with a hard stroke the balls wont hop all over the table. Diamond cushions are k55 and amf uses k66. You can use the diamond cushions but the rails need to be modified to accept them correctly. It has probably shrunk your playing area as well.

is the profile of the cushion just the height where it meets the center of the ball?

or should the cushion be above center on the ball.

The nose of the cushion should be 1-15/32" It's correct that whoever worked on it put the wrong profile cushion on without changing the rail to accept it.

When we refer to the "profile" of the rubber, we're talking about the overall shape/dimensions of the rubber.

The rubber will hit a little above the equator of the ball. With the rubber at the equator, any topspin makes that ball "climb" the rubber when it hits. If the ball is in the air at all when it hits the rail, it will take a nasty hop off of it.

The unfortunate thing for you is that this guy obviously didn't know what he was doing when he replaced your rubber. To ask him to come back and fix it is flirting with danger. He may or may not warranty his work. Your options are to have him put K66 on the table or modify the rails to accept the K55. I definitely wouldn't trust him with the latter. If he won't correct his mistake by putting the right profile on the table, you should get someone who DOES know what they are doing to make it right.

I'm only about 1-1.5 hours from you, so don't hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions along the way.

In basic terms - K66 and 55 have the same general profile (shape) but the dimensions are different.
K55 cushions are slightly larger than K66 cushions.

Essentially - putting a 55 on a table that calls for a 66 lowers the nose height and shortens the playfield.
