Amsterdam Billiards (NYC)

Sorry to spread misinformation. Got the impression uptown was closing sooner.

Can't dispute the line on Spanish Eddie, either! You've got to be in the mood for psych-ops if you tangle with him.:p

Jude,

Just goes to show how far i've been from the game lately. I didn't even know ABC was closing, much less that Corner was out of business. Poor Greg, always in the way of progress. I was at the east side for the last night, i suppose i should plan to return to the west side prior to it's closing.

Soho's pretty gross but they're trying to clean it up.

T,,,,,,,,,,,,, a lot of good players.

soho could be a GREAT place, ,,,it has a fantastic layout, but the clientelle sucks and the atmosphere makes playing pool there sheer torture. the owner is very tight with the building owner, so he has a good deal on the lease = he's never bothered cleaning up the room.

however, all the players from corner are now playing at soho(NOT amsterdam like the hunts expected they would),,,and i think if the soho owner gets a whiff at how much potential his room has and ramps it up, it could be a problem for amsterdam because everyone at the former corner billiards hated the idea of abc taking over.

I don't know what they're thinking at SoHo, if anything. I drop in there now and then because it's on my way home and happens to be across the street from one of my favorite bars in town, Milano's. Tables well-spaced and the old spectator chairs are nice, but they must've got their mechanic from Pep Boys. If you don't get rolls, you might get pockets falling off the frame, believe it or not. And you pay top dollar ... don't think ABC has much to be worried about at this point.

Does anyone have any stories re: his psych-ops?

So true about the balls falling! So many of those tables have the return tray hanging off; it's unbelievable. I'll never go there again unless banger friends want to stop by just for a drink.
