Amway cup 2017

FargoRate currently puts the top two women, Han Yu and Siming Chen, at 64th and 69th in the world's top 100 players.

Karen Corr is currently at 14th among the women, with 7 of the women ahead of her being from China.

Looks like you feel FargoRate may be a bit inaccurate.

I like FargoRate, but I'll do my own handicapping, thank you. It's been working out okay for me the last fifty years so why change things now. I've seen many handicapping systems down through the years and most of them try to simplify the game of pool and I think that can't really be as accurate as good observation of the respective skills of the players involved, particularly at the time they are playing.

Good players have good days and some not so good. It's knowing when someone is ready and when they're not that can make the difference between a win and a loss. I knew Dennis was ready for this match and I had my reservations about Scott with all the distractions of putting together a new business. If they were to play again next year in Scott's new room things could be different.

There are other factors that go into gauging a match that I prefer not to reveal here. I don't just play a favorite or someone I like, let me just say that. I consider Dennis a close friend, but if he makes a bad game I won't be betting on him.

Worldwide that may be fairly accurate. They well could be in the top 100 players on the planet. I would estimate only 8-10 men players here would be favorites over these two in a Race to Eleven 9-Ball match, and that my be a generous estimate on my part. Some of the American men players who have represented us internationally are not their speed. These women and several others play higher than shortstop speed.

That is a very good analysis of Dennis and Scott. A lot of people have concluded Dennis is the best player in the world based on the match. They did the same thing with Alex when he whipped Scott at Hardtimes. In both cases I felt Scott had not prepared the same as his opponents. There has not been a clear cut number 1 for any length of time since Efren stopped dominating everyone.

... Chen Siming moves the cue ball as good as all but the very best players. Only guys like Dennis, Shane, Ko and Alex are any better. And her game is equally as consistent with very few misses or mistakes. In other words she (and several others like her) are world class players in ANY competition!

I well remember your post from 6 years ago after you first saw Si Ming (or Siming) Chen play -- http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=227796. She has done well since then, and it will be interesting to see what she accomplishes in the future.

I was honoured to be invited as a referee for this tournament this year. The level of play is very high and especially Chinese players are rock solid. I enjoyed the event and also some Taipei sightseeing with my fellow Taiwanese referees.

Yeah good to have be part of our referee team.:thumbup:
