Amway Cup observations

First, congrats to Vivian Villarreal for her run to the quarterfinals and to YRC for winning the Amway Cup.

Second, I believe that with the all-Asian final 4 we are witnessing how far the Asian women have come in women's pocket billiards. I am wondering if this is due to that they have become that dominant or if "home-field advantage" helps that much?

The semi finals had ladies from S Korea and Taiwan or two small countries. There must be an intense work ethic. For the men there is the small country of the Phillipines. These countries revere those that excell in the sports or games that they can. There aren't many other distractions as in the US.

Interesting that the Asians still come to the US to advance. It must be fun here for them for they seem to stay - what else would they be doing?:smile:

Almost no one, man or woman from Taiwan ever comes to the US. The Phillipines is a different story.

Almost. Except for Jennefer Chen and now Shu Han Chang.

I said Taiwan because I didn't think that communist China would send a shooter, but Xiaoting Pan hails from Shanghai.

When Yu Ram Cha came to the U.S. for pool lessons she went straight to Stan Shuffett and in 2007, she gave an interview to Sunny Griffin and made some bold testimonial statements about Stan's ability to teach pool. along with many other professional players.

If you read what Yu Ram Cha said about Stan, you have to believe that Stan knows not only how to teach, but he can REALLY PLAY AT TOP SPEED.

I had the pleasure of doing commentary on one of Yu Ram Cha's matches at Galveston World Classic and she played extremely well but that level of play is becoming a benchmark for her, or so it seems.
