I have edited this post - as well as new information further in this thread! Tom

The Super Pool Challenge has launched our Tournament Series for the "everyday" player and I wanted you to know we are putting a lot of thought into an "advanced" 9-Ball Pool Series for ALL Players. I wanted to share my thoughts with you and get your opinions.

Here are the 16 Cities/Regionals we have in mind:

Orlando, Florida
Atlanta, Georgia
Charlotte, North Carolina
Memphis, Tennessee
Dallas, Texas
Houston, Texas
Los Angles, California
Las Vegas, Nevada
Denver, Colorado
Chicago, Illinois
New York, New York
Baltimore, Maryland
Kansas City, Missouri
Cincinnatti, Ohio
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Detroit, Michigan

Edited - looks like 32 now - your thoughts?

This Tournament would be OPEN to any male or female player - Pros, Masters, Semi-Pro and Amateurs are eligible, with an exception: Also, what do you think of the proposed exceptions for Players listed as a Pro or Master on the BCA website? The races are to 5, except for the final match in the losers bracket, winners bracket and Championship match - the races are to 7.

They are as follows:

Pro's: If their immediate opponent is -

Listed as a Pro also - then no games are given.
Listed as a Master - then 1 game is given.
Not listed at all on the BCA Website - 2 games are given.

Master's: If their immediate opponent is -

Listed as a Pro - then the Master player is given 1 game.
Listed as a Master also - then no games are given.
Not listed at all on the BCA Website - 1 game is given.

We will use an "alternating break" format.

The shorter races and alternating breaks will give everyone a chance - and a Tournament where "everyone" has a chance should have a GREAT turnout.

What do you think?

Not one Canadian city. Why not a couple in Canada, one in the west and one in the east? Maybe Toronto or Montreal and Calgary or Vancouver.

Tom,
Why not a tournement in Iowa. There are plenty of good venues to hold a qualifier in and I know you would draw a lot support and interest in that state. I know Sioux City, Des Moines or Debuque Iowa would be large enough to draw considerable interest in this type of event.

Tell me your thougts . . . .

Celtic -

Airfare is a little higher out of canada. But, what two cities would be able to draw 16 players @ $100 participation fee - to 4 Qualifiers, for a total of 64 players that advamce to that Regional?

The cities would need to be able to draw from other cities within say a 4 hour drive. We haven't any ideas about Canada - However, "Build it - We will come"! Email me your ideas - or post them here.

Knud -

Sioux City is kinda out there - howabout Minneapolis?
Des Moines is only 194 miles to Kansas City - would have to travel there or 350+ to Chicago. That's about it for that grid. But - your suggestions and ideas are needed. Help us see if there is a need in that area to attract 64 "advanced" - aesome, exciting players that will put up $100 to compete for up to a $15.000 1st prize.

These cities aren't in stone yet - still comtemplating.

Tom

Toronto or Montreal would have no problem filling a 64 player tournament at $100 entries a pop for the East.

Calgary draws tons of players from its area and has a HUGE pool scene. Vancouver does pretty well with it and Seattle being two main centers close to there to draw players from.

I would think you would do better running 32 player tournaments in 32 cities with the top 2 winning trips instead of running 16 player tournaments 4 times in the same city. I have never seen setups where there are multiple qualifiers in the same area work well, just a thought. Getting 32 players in any good pool city would be a piece of cake for a single tournament.

We can only afford to fly in and accomidate 32 players within the budget. that's why we have the 4 qualifiers per city and then the Regional there. But, the Qualifiers can come from any pool house that wishes to partner with us and their customers/players don't mind driving to the Regional.

They don't have to be in the same city - but the 4 must be within 2 hours drive of the Regional City. So, who could be a Regional City within those parameters and draw 64 players over the 4 qualifiers and they drive to the Regional City?

Hey I can do anything - it would be awesome to have an Canadian presense - we'd be INTERNATIONAL then!

Call me - (912) 865-9274 and we could talk.

And check on airfare from the nearest airports into Atlanta - leave on a friday afternoon - (late evening if you want to miss the party)
and return late Sunday afternoon/early evening. Check them out and get back to me. Approx. Date leave Friday Jan. 23rd, stay SAt, Jan 24th, and return late Sunday Jan 25th. This is the week between SuperBowl - excellent time!

Thanks,

Tom

Seattle would have no problem filling a tournament. There are already a few annual tourneys in the area that get up to 80+ entries already. Since most of them come across the state or up from Portland and down from Vancouver BC.
I'd be in.

poolgod -

If we had a Regional in Seattle - would players drive from Portland and Vancover to participate?

So - is $100 affordable for a top amateur, semi-pro or pro player to take a chance of winning up to $15,000?

Thanks - Tom

Did I miss it? When are you thinking of putting on this event or at least the initial stop?

Thanks.

Just curious as to why you are putting this on.

Should you get full fields the entry collected amounts to

$102,400.00 minus the $60,000.00 cash prize leaves $42,400.00

in the "kitty"

Flights, accomodations, meals, etc for 32 players, averages out to $1325.00 per player. Which I suppose would come from the "kitty fund"

Now, in the past the players entries always have been minimum 100% payback and even at that most players won't enter unless money has been added.

I am quite sure that you will have "other expenses" as well, but again , as in the past, players will never except ANY expenses to come out of the entries collected

Why or how is this type set up supposed to be better?

Tom- What about St. Louis? There is a major Airport their, Centrally located in the US and has many places to play, players of the caliber the tour is looking for and plenty of Billiard support in general! BCtv is based out of St. Louis, maybe they will want to help out or even broadcast some events! Just a suggestion!

I know New York is fairly close to Boston but I think Beantown would be a great stop as well. There would be no problem filling the tournament either considering you would probably get players from all over New England. I'm sure Mario from MSB can attest to the quality of amatuer players in the area.

Thank you,
Dave

PLEASE COME TO VANCOUVER!! I know that a tournament in Vancouver would do very well. The weekly tournaments there have no problem getting 32 players and the big tournaments easily can excede 128 players. People from about 4 hours in every direction would also show up. People also won't have a problem paying $100 to enter if they know they arent gonna have to match up against a pro. If not Vancouver please consider something in the northwest!!

9Ball -

We are still debating ehether or not to develop the Advanced Series - but it is looking pretty good.

Keith -

For two reasons:

1) There aren't many pool tournaments where a pool player can compete to win up to $10,000 for a $20 entry fee, and up to $15,000 for a $100 entry fee in an advanced tournament. We can give todays pool player an exciting tournament format - affordably.

2) We can create a profitable company promoting Pool Tournaments. I enjoy marketing, and millions of people play pool everyday. It is a good fit for us.

I own a travel company so I can get the hotel and air tickets at wholesale - so, it won't be over $600 per player average - I mean we aren't going to put them up in a 5 star hotel - probably Marriott or one of their brands.

There is no way to run a Tournament Series of this magnitude with a 100% payback. We will allot 66% of all participation fees to the Prize Fund, the balance will be used for advertising, marketing, general expenses and profit for the company.

We feel we'll be different by having a nationwide reach, multiple Tournaments each year, offering up to $58,600 in prize money for a $100 participation fee and with our structure.

Zim -

We are debating a 32 city tour, versus 16 - so St. Louis would make the cut I believe. Working on the format as I speak (er type)

Dave -

What is the population of the Bostom metro area? Would the area be able to produce 2 - 16 player Qualifying Tournaments?

FX -

Since Vancouver and Portland are are within driving range to Seattle - we'll probably have a Qualifier there - but, that's less than 2 hours away right?

To all -

I know you have seen a lot of posts, but we are really trying to incorporate the ideas and opinions of those that matter most - you, the pool player, into our Tournaments. I appreciate your input.

Thanks - Tom

Tom

Hey Tom,

Just the immediate Boston area has around 2.5 million. That is not including the talent pool from NH, Maine, Vermont, RI and CT. The qualifying tournaments would be no problem as I know of probably 100 players who would love to play. If you are interested in this area I can put you in touch with a great room that hosts the Joss tour every year.

Best regards,
Dave

Keith -

Thanks! We are putting together an awesome format. Should have it ready by the weekend.

Dave -

Looks like we are going to a 32 city/regional. Boston will certainly make the cut. Also, I will take you up on the Pool Establishment referal - send me an email. We will also be needing Tournament Directors and Assistants in these cities - you want to volunteer for Boston?

Thanks - Tom

Got the emails! thanks for sharing your ideas with us.

I have received numerous emails and PM's about additional cities, so we are considering broadening our reach. I even had players want me to hold Qualifiers in Taipei and Germany.

So, if we are to add 16 more cities, what cities could produce 4 Qualifiers with a 16 player bracket in each? Each city would have a Semi-Final for their city where the top two players and two wild card players advance. Then from that Semi-Final, the Champion and one wild card would advance to the Nationals expense paid!

If we are to add 16 cities, for a total of 32, then the registration fee would be only $100 versus $125. Plus, we would pay out on each city's Semi-Final Championship as well as the National Championship.

Still working on it - so, your input is appreciated.

Thanks,
