The deadly duo of Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante
will be joined by Ronato Alcano, Dennis Orcollo, Warren Kiamco and Lee
Vann Corteza to lead the Philippine charge at the start of the P2 million
first ever Manny Pacquiao International 9-Ball Open.

The venue will be the Hobbies of Asia Bldg. in Macapagal Avenue in Pasay
City on Oct. 24 to 27 and the payout will be a total pot prize of P2 million
with the winner taking away the whopping top prize money of P1 million
while the runner-up gets P500,000.

This was bared yesterday by RP's no. 1 trick shot player and tournament
director Julie Falcon Guevarra.

"Nag confirm na maglalaro sina Efren (Reyes) at Django (Bustamante) ng
Puyat Sports. Sasali din sina Ronnie (Alcano) at Dennis (Orcollo) ng Bugsy
Promotion maging sina Lee Vann (Corteza) at Warren (Kiamco) ng Negros
Billiard Stable. Lahat kasi sila ay mang-gagaling pa sa US Open then diretso
dito sa 1st Manny Pacquiao International 9-ball Open bago maglaro sa
World Pool Championships,"
explained by tournament director Julie
Guevarra.
("Efren and Django from Puyat Sports will be in this tournament. Ronnie
Alcano and Dennis Orcullo from Bugsy's Promotion and Lee Vann Corteza
and Warren Kiamco of Negros Billiard stable also confirmed their participa-
tion. They will all be coming directly from the US, right after the US Open
and this tournament is just right before the World Pool Championships")

Reyes and Bustamante on the other hand, both prized fighter of RP billiard
patron Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, are scheduled to defend their title when the
2007 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool gets going on September 25 to
September 30 at the Outland nightclub in Rotterdam, Holland.

"Di lang sure si Alex (Pagulayan), 'yung mga ganoon na petsa kasi ay
parang may commitment s'ya sa abroad. Pero I hope na makalaro siya dito
sa Manny Pacquiao International 9-ball Open,"
Guevarra said.
(Alex isn't sure, he might have prior commitments abroad on that date. I
just hope he will be here to participate in the Manny Pacquiao International
9-Ball Open")

Tournament director Julie is expecting more than 100 cue artists who will
take part in this event that features some of the world's best pool sharks.

"Open sa lahat ito, inaasahan ko na mahigit sa 100 billiard player na
mang-gagaling pa sa ibat-ibang panig ng mundo ang sasali. Timing ang
date bago mag World pool Championships,"
he added.
(This tournament is open to everybody, and I'm expecting more
than a hundred players from around the world to participate. The timing
for this tournament is just perfect, just before the World Pool Chmapionships"

The forthcoming 32nd Annual U.S. Open set on October 14 - 20, 2007.
This event will be held again at the beautiful Chesapeake Conference
Center, in Chesapeake Virginia while the World Pool championships will
return again in our country on November 3 to 11 at the legendary Araneta
Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City with the champion taking home the lion's
share of US$100,000.

Solar Sports, the leading Sports channel will air the Manny Pacquiao
International 9-ball Open. Interestingly, Solar Sports also won the rights to
air the mega buck fight of Pacquiao vs Barrera on Oct. 6 in Las Vegas,
Nevada.

It shall be recalled, last December, unheralded Benson Palses won the
Manny Pacquiao Panersera-Pababa 10-ball tourney at the Rock and Roll
billiard hall in Malate, Manila while Roberto Gomez dominates the Manny
Pacquiao 10-ball Open in General Santos City last February.

"Gusto ni Manny (Pacquiao) na Solar Sports ang mag ere ng pa bilyar niya.
Actually, tulong ni Manny (Pacquiao) ito sa billiard industry natin, talagang
nagpapalaro si Manny (Pacquiao) pagkatapos ng laban niya bilang
pasasalamat," last word of Julie. For inquiries, call or text at mobile no.

The total prize money isn't that bad, considering this tournament is being
shouldered by a single person. Two million pesos is just about 42,937 dollars,
and first place pays $21, 468, while the runner-up gets $10,734. The prize
payout is top heavy though.

Reyes, Bustamante, Orcullo, Corteza, Kiamco, Alcano in US Open

("Efren and Django from Puyat Sports will be in this tournament. Ronnie
Alcano and Dennis Orcullo from Bugsy's Promotion and Lee Vann Corteza
and Warren Kiamco of Negros Billiard stable also confirmed their participa-
tion. They will all be coming directly from the US, right after the US Open
and this tournament is just right before the World Pool Championships")

Well this is good news for Jay Helfert if indeed these top players from the Philippines are participating in the US Open. If I remember correctly, he made a bet with somebody that a player from the Philippines would win the US Open even without knowing who will be joining. Hope Manalo, Pagulayan and Luat play in the US Open too to make your chances of winning the bet even better.

Jay, how about the Filipinos against the rest of the field? What odds will you
give? Or get? I want to know odds the you'll give about different match-ups like
the Europeans against the Americans, or the Taiwanese vs. the rest of the field.

Immonen to join Pacquiao 9-Ball Open

MIKA-IMMONEN-BIO.jpg

Former World Pool Champion winner Mika Immonen got a personal invitation
from the boxing star himself to join the star-studded 1st Manny Pacquiao
International 9-Ball Open on Oct. 24 to 27 at the Hobbies of Asia Bldg. in
Pasay City.

Immonen, the 2002 World Champion who is here in Cebu, visited Pacquiao
during his training at the Rex "Wakee" Salud International gym yesterday
and got his special invitation from the boxing hero who is also an avid
billiard player.

"I am honored to be part of the tournament because it's going to be big.
Most of the big-time players will be there to play and use it as a warm up
tournament going to the World Pool Championship,"
Immonen told
reporters.

Filipino billiard masters, led by Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco "Django"
Bustamante, Ronato "Volcano" Alcano, Dennis "Robocop" Orcullo, Cebuano
Warren Kiamco and Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza, will join a few
international players in vying for the P2 million total cash prize.

The champion will earn half of the total payout.

"It's going to be a good tune-up because aside from the strong field of
Filipino players, international players from Taiwan, Europe and the US will
be there to play. It's going to be fun,"
he added.

According to Immonen, the WPC held here last year was an eye opener as
the Philippines showed it has a lot of talents who are well-motivated and
have a big chance to be known internationally.

For his part, Immonen, a regular Cebu visitor is emulating Pacquiao train in
Cebu for a crucial match.

"I'm basically here to visit some friends but admittedly I did some training
to keep myself in top shape. I'll be in Holland next week to play for the
world doubles championship and I need to be in top shape,"
Immonen said.

Even in the heat of a busy schedule, Filipino boxing sensation Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao still
has the time to indulge in other sports that has caught his fancy.

Also an avid pool player, Pacquiao has put his money where his mouth is with the inaugural of
the Manny Pacquiao International 9-Ball Open. The qualifying round gets underway on October
24 to 26 at the Hobbies of Asia Building in Pasay City.

The Last 16 will be held at the SM Mall of Asia on October 27.

Two of the country's top cue artists - Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante -
will be bannering the P2-million event.

Reigning double world champion Ronato Alcano, Dennis Orcullo, Marlon Manalo, Rodolfo Luat,
Ramil Gallego, Warren Kiamco and Lee Vann Corteza will join Reyes and Bustamante in the
tournament where the top finisher will receive P1 million and the runner-up P500,000.

Alcano is fresh from a runner-up finish in the 32nd annual US Open 9-Ball at the Chesapeake
Convention Center in Chesapeake, Virginia over the weekend.

"Inaasahan ko na mahigit sa 100 participant ang lalaro. May inaasahan din tayong foreign player,
parang practice na din nila ito bago mag WPC next month ng pool wizards," tournament director
Julie "Falcon" Guevarra said referring the forthcoming 2007 World Pool Championship on Nov. 3
to 11 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

This is not the first time that Pacquiao has organized a pool tournament.

In December last year, the Manny Pacquiao Panersera-Pababa 10-ball tourney was held at
the Rock and Roll billiard hall in Malate while the Manny Pacquiao 10-ball Open in General
Santos City was held only last February. Benson Palses and Roberto Gomez won the said events,
respectively.

Solar Sports, home of the Filipino Cable channel will air the event, according to Guevarra.
