hi, during UMB/CEB artistic carom tournaments they never apply silicon on the cue ball .Artistic Billiards is fun to watch. Some of our shots are derived from this. I believe there are times where silicone is applied to the cue ball but I don't have the program to see. I saw an artistic billiards demo at the SBE years back and the first thing the guy did was spray silicone on a towel and wipe the cue ball. Silicone or not, it is still very impressive.
In some clubs -like mine- , on the artistic carom table they sometime apply a very light touch of silicon on the bands when they aren't 'new enough' , but never on the balls. (for that, they are using a shoe care product, a kind of sponge )
But a couple of champions told me that in some of their trips on south america they've seen players apply some silicon on the balls for some shots.
