An idea for a better T.V. or stream game.

8-ball played on a table with 4.25 in pockets or smaller with red and yellow colored ball groupings to help the viewer see the layout (this is critical).

The match would not be a raise to a number of racks won it would be a timed match like basketball or football. I propose 4 15 minute quarters with a 30 second shot clock.

1 point scored for pocketing a ball, 2 points for a bank. 4 points for the 8 ball and 5 points for banking the 8.

The player who pockets the 8 breaks with a clock stoppage to rack the balls. Each player would have 3 timeouts. BIH for shot clock violations.

A tie game would result in a one rack sudden death where the players lag for the break.

I would like to see bigtruck, tar or fastlenny try this out.

The problem with this is if the commentator wants to say what ball will be shot or the sequence. The yellow in the corner, followed by the yellow in the side and etc. Which one?
 
I don't know about the game itself... but ESPN has GOT to find a more exciting way to market pool then what they're doing so far.

I think something really cool would be for ESPN one sunday to air "The Color of Money" match in some shape or form between Reyes and Strickland.

The only people interested in TV pool are those who are already involved. ESPN is preaching to the choir. Who outside our subculture even has a glimmer of who Effren Reyes is? But, do you know who Big Ben Roethlisberger
is. I'll bet you do. Two superbowl rings. It turns out he is a very good golfer also. He proved it in a proam tournament. It was ,of course a charity event. Nobody could afford to get all theses guys together at one time. All their contracts REQUIRE them to give up some time to charitable causes.
So, to the point. Why not a scotch doubles 8-ball tournament with notable sports figures and top pool players as partners? I'm sure that a lot of the sports guys consider themselves pool players and buy the most expensive pool tables and pool cues for their cribs.
How it could be done is for another person to figure out. But to drag pool out of the 1950's it has to be done with some 2010 thinking and not the schlock promotion of ESPN.
