An introduction and the typical rookie question...

They call it McKay Landing and it's in Broomfield. All I know is it's c. 30 minutes from the airport. My wife was visiting our daughter and bought the place on her last visit.

My baby girl just got her PhD. from CU, and now wants to think about starting a family, so the "Gramma hormones" have already kicked in for my wife.

As long as it's got heat, A/C and a huge basement, I'll live in a tent if it means I can have the Anniversary! Only problem is we sold our home down here in one day, so we've gotta rent a flophouse somewhere out there for two or three months before the new place is finished.

Does that make me a certifiable pool nut? I darn well think so! :smash:

That Mezz is nice, but over your aforementioned price range, plus the added cost of a smooth leather wrap would put you in the $600+ range.
I'd go with the 2 piece conversion of your existing cue as first choice.
I would then go with a butt of your choice under $200 with a joint you prefer. Purchase a low deflection shaft of your choice to fit it.
If you like the combo enough then have a smooth leather wrap put on it.
Keep in mind that the leather wrap will make the cue slightly heavier and move the balance point closer the the butt end. That might be why Joss didn't want to alter one of their SP's. Plus it's not a SP any more once you add the leather wrap.
For about $100 you could try a Players HXT and convert the wrap if you like the cue. I would not spend the extra money on the leather wrapp until you know you love the cue.

The search for a new toy continues, Bill. Some good advice there. I just may forego the shaft upgrade and settle for a linen wrap for now. This is nearly exactly what I've been trying to locate.

Welcome to the forum! You've picked three very decent cues with the Joss, Schon, and Mezz cues. I don't think you'd be unhappy with any of the three.

However, if you're not going to be able to play until you get up to Denver, I'd definitely wait to get a cue and take the guys offering to let you try some cues up at Hank's.

Take this from a guy who doesn't have the opportunity to "test" before I buy...which is why I've bought/sold/traded probably close to 50 cues over the last year! The cues you mentioned can all be had within a few days from the retailer if you don't (or do) find a cue up in Denver with which you've been able to hit a few balls...

There's nothing better than "trying before you're buying"!!!

You will be about 20 minutes from Hanks and about 40 minutes from Felt give or take depending on the time of day. We have a nasty rush hour here that lasts from about 3 PM to 6 PM.
We also have a very nice large Billiards store in Lakewood (close to you) that sells everything you could want including a selection of cues.
If you could raise your cue budget just a little Ted (Cuesblues) has an extensive collection and our local pool room rail bird Phil the fin is always buying and selling cues more in your price range.
